I have an NVIDIA 4000 display card. When I start MC 6, I get a message that my ACPL GPU effects are disabled. I'm assuming that means the display card GPU won't be used to render effects. Is there something that I need to do to enable the GPU effects? Am I understanding this correctly?
Any advice is welcome. Lots to learn. :-)
Thanks.

This COULD mean that you need a newer driver version.
If it's not trouble to you try the newest one.
Even if it's not supported.

The drivers to be used for it are the ones provided by Avid and situated into Avid/Utilities/Nvidia .
Are these the drivers you currently are using ?

Hi, mjolnarn,
Yes, I installed the driver that came with my Avid installation.
Bump
Jeff can you confirm that you have driver 275.89, I have the same card as yours, and when I installed MC6, and did not update the driver, I have a message about the GPU so I went to nvidia and downloaded the most current driver, and I still got the message, so I followed what MC6 wanted me to install and that is 275.89, restart MC and everything is fine so far
PS: Do you mean you see the error during startup or after MC 6 is up and running
Yes, I have driver 275.89 that I installed from the Avid Utilities folder. The message I get when I START MC 6 is this:
"GPU card and driver are qualified but an error occurred during initialization. GPU accelerated effects will be disabled resulting in reduced effects performance."
That sounds like all my effects rendering will be sent through the CPU with now help from the GPU. I'm not sure why this happens.
Got caught with this one so no credit to me if it solves it.
My issue was using VNC which is a remote access service that runs. Seems it interferes with the display calls and causes the issue. So check you have nothing else running in the background that could be interfering with the display.

Thanks, Pat. Are you referring to services that appear in the Task Manager under the Services tab? I don't have anything that looks like VNC running in the background. I wouldn't know if any of the services that are running would cause a problem. Did you stop services until you found the culprit?
Still need help with this. Anyone know why my Quadro GPU ACPL is disabled?
It was VNC for me but there are other programs and utilities that hijack the display drivers and that can cause an issue.
Jeff, have you tried 276.28 or gone back to 190.38 nVidia drivers?

What Mohammed says.
Jeff, like Pat said, there could be a program that has hijacked your display settings and not allowing MC6 to function properly, I have the same card as you and I dont see that problem. The initial problem I had was that I was being smart and upgraded my driver to the most current at from nvidia website, them I got a similar display message when starting MC6 so I went back to the required driver and problem solved.
what I would do in your situation is to uninstall MC 6, and install again, if problem solved ok, if not move to the next step;
Check control panel to determine all programs that you have installed on your PC, determine those that you have installation cd/file that you can install again after unstalling that program
Start uninstalling your programs one at a time and at each uninstall rebooth your computer and start MC6 to see if problem solved, I believe by doing that you will find the culprit responsible for this error.
BTW what is your system spec. Also if you dont mine, list all programs installed on your computer here so that people can look through and make suggestions as to which program might be a probable conflict
