Does anyone know where I can find out what error messages mean?

    Hi:

I have MC6, and loving it. I have just now had the following error message: avid media composer Exception: Av CFTypeRef Ptr: invalid input reference. Does anyone know what this means or where I can find out? TIA

    Hi,

There's not really a list someplace that defines what you do for each error message.  This post explains why:

If you tell us what's happening when the error happens, what kind of project you've got, and what kind of footage, we might be able to help.

I've been building up an error database here:

    And also here:

But that particular message is not on the list. It's one of those messages where I know what causes it but I really don't know what you as an end-user can do to prevent it.

You can always try typing the error in the knowledge base. Mileage may vary though.

I've had some good luck on occasion by searching the specific error on google.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. I tried google and avid kb but to no avail. I think it occurred because I turned on my video monitor after I had started up Avid. A restart of MC fixed it. The error message came up on both source and record monitors. I could play clips in both but once I stopped play the source and record monitors went black and gave the message; I could not use JKL nor add the stabilise filter. Just wanted to know so I could avoid in future if possible. Really loving MC 6. I will explore the digital rebellion link - thanks.

    Hi all

I found what's going on with this issue... finally after 3 reinstall and 1 ghost... grrr

In fact it was a external drive who causes this message in MC starting... The drive format was in a bad shape so I disconnect it and oh miracle the message vanished !

    Hope it helps

    Tof

For me it was the timemachine on the mac. Disabling that helped me startup normally.
