Avid FX crash "could not create the file..."

I would appreciate ideas to troubleshoot the following problem:

After a few minutes in AvidFX (actively working in it or just sitting idle), I get tens of quickly cascading error messages all saying "could not create the file. Check that the volume is not locked and that you have write permissions". No more no less. After a few seconds, Windows 7 reports that the application has crashed (that is, MC and AvidFX) and will be closed.

I suspect this error occurs exactly when MC wants to autosave my work, and AvidFX happens to be open at that moment.

I will try to increase the autosave interval (currently set at 10 minutes) and see if that helps, but I wonder what file "could not be created" ????

My system is pretty standard, and I have all permissions needed

    Benoit,

I seem to remember that Mike Shaw has had a similar problem.

I will contact him and see if he has a solution.

Re: Avid FX crash "could not create the file..."

I did indeed have this problem ... twice, once with MC5.5, and again with MC6.  The cure is similar in both instances - delete a file, but the location of that file (which gets regenerated) depends on which version of MC you have.  Unfortunately I cannot find my notes on the whereabouts of either file at the moment and I'm away from my MC PC - I'll have to do some more searching around.

However, either vbersion, that is only really a 'temporary' cure: the problem can return without warning.  There is a more permanent way to prevent it happening:

There is a setting in Avid FX's Preferences that needs changing - you must disable the AVID FX 'Autosave' - if it is checked, uncheck it. A cure for that will be forthcoming in a future patch I'm told.

Simply doing that, and re-booting your computer may solve the problem: I found when I was having the problem that restarting AvidFX cleared it.

Sorry I cannot be any more help at the moment - if you put your post on the 'Complete your Suit' part of this forum, addressed to Dirk, he will probably have the answer quicker than I can get to it.  Or, whoever it was that helped me in locating those files may chip in ...

The good news is - it can be avoided!

The crasches came from the Win7 UAC, disabling it may resolve the problem

Re: Avid FX crash "could not create the file..."

Thank you Mike (and also Alessio) for your input.

I will now move this thread over to the "Complete Your Suite" Forum.
That way Dirk is likely to see it and add any extra advice.

Re: Avid FX crash "could not create the file..."

I never touched the Windows UAC for the cure, interesting.

Note that it is the Avid FX autosave that must be unchecked, not MCs:  simply adding time to the Avid FX autosave period will only delay the problem.

disabling UAC is not an option for me on this computer, so I will try disabling AvidFX autosave

I am in a position to inform you all that BorisFX have been working on a fix for the auto-save bug, and in Avid FX 6.0.4 the bug will have been killed!

I do not know when Avid FX 6.0.4 will be available for download. But I do not believe that you will have to wait too long for it.

    Sorry, Benoit,

I got my wires crossed with another thread that was also having troubles with AvidFX.

However, I am pretty sure that you will get things working this time . . . . . .
