How to export 1920 x 1080 sequence to Avid DVD

    Hi

We have sequences in 1920 x 1080i (Canon MXF AMA source) and wish to export to Avid DVD for making Blu rays disks.

Up until now we have been using the "HDV Elementary streams" export to make .mpg and .mpa files.

However we have just realised that these files are created as 1440 X 1080i files so we have been loosing part of the better quality of the full HD 1920 x 1080 camera source.

There doesn't seem to be an obvious way of exporting the full res files to .mpg

What is the correct workflow, how should we be doing it.

We have Mc 6.0.1 on dual Zeon 6 core machine with all the latest software (upgraded yesterday.)

    Many thanks for help.

Export as a QT reference file and import that into AvidDVD and let AvidDVD do the Blu-ray transcoding.   It's a solid workflow that I use all the time for Blu-ray.

    Brian,

Duplicate your sequence and then do a video and audio mixdown.    Cut in the video mixdown (the audio mixdown should already be there) and then delete all the tracks except the mixdown tracks.  Make sure you do this to the duplicated sequence, NOT your original sequence).   Then you should be able to export the QT reference of the mixdown tracks from the duplicated sequence.

HDV is a horrible mastering format.

As you've spotted it's subsampled at 1440 but it's also fixed long GOP so you end up with soft and low datarate sections of GOP.

You need to work with frame based codecs after aquisition. File sizes will grow but that's better than quality dropping...

Re: How to export 1920 x 1080 sequence to Avid DVD

    Thanks for help.

I did the audio and video mixdown and Avid DVD gives an error message on import saying that it cannot find the right codec?

When i did the video mixdown, I used the XDCAM 50 MXF codec? perhaps this was not the right one to use?

Re: How to export 1920 x 1080 sequence to Avid DVD

Bearing in mind that our source is Canon XF305 mxf, what do you suggest that we use as a codec. And at what point to we convert, after linking to AMA or do we have to do an import and conversion rather than a link ?

    Thanks

Re: How to export 1920 x 1080 sequence to Avid DVD

    Hello

I tried this by doing a video mixdown to DNxHD 120; but when I try to export a QT ref , the audio exports then when it tried to export the video I get the following error message

    Exception: ADD_MEDIA_DATA_REF_FAILED

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks
