    This is a step back.

    I agree.

    Patrick Loiseau:
Where can I report that I NEED that « Mark I/O and select tracks » technique working again ?

I'll get back to you on that, but I will make sure the source of that information sees this thread. I have a feeling that once this becomes common knowledge, we're going to see more users reporting in. On the one hand, the lasso technique is more flexible, but it cannot account for all keyframe situations, when many are close together. It's great to have lassoing and lateral movement in keyframe regions, but KB marking to define a region is a precise, quick technique AND IT SHOULD NOT BE ABANDONED.

{EDIT} Cross posted with Jay's response, which supports my points.

I haven't upgraded to 6.5 yet but this functionality change would be a very unapreciated hindrance.

On the whole I'm really happy with the changes to audio, and that's the main reason we decided to try out 6.5 even in the middle of a show. For me the new functionality is well worth it, even with some functionality that is hopefully only temporarily lost.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

I've just installed the 6.5 trial version on my home system. First of all I have to say that it's great to have the new audio keyframes cababilities. But loosing the feature to mark a region an adjust keyframes makes audio mixing a lot slower for me. One thing that I like about Media Composer is the possibilitie to be able to use the keyboard for most of the editing functions.

As much as I'd like to update to 6.5 for improvements like Audio Punch-In for 3rd party hardware, this keyframe thing is a big reason for me to stay with version 6.

    Hopefully this will come back.

    Evan Schiff:

Yeah, that's how it worked up until 6.5. So like if you had music on A13 and A14 and had those tracks active, one hit of Add Keyframe would put a keyframe on both tracks, and then dragging up or down, say, the A14 keyframe would also adjust the A13 keyframe. But it only worked vertically, not horizontally

yes, that is pretty annoying... keyrames of  tracks that belong to the same Master Clip should behave in the same way!

Here's my response sent to the Avid individual who contacted me:

First of all, thanks for the reply, and we all really do appreciate the enhancements to keyframing behavior, especially horizontal movement of keyframe regions. However, you need to re-evaluate your decision to drop marking in and out to define a range of keyframes. You and the beta team have not considered several specific scenarios where marking is the best and quickest way to create a region. There should be no reason why both lassoing to define a region and marking to define a region can't peacefully coexist. Once again, PLEASE DON'T remove features users have depended on for years in their workflow. Add new ones to them, but don't remove the existing ones, especially ones that have been there almost since the very beginning of Avid software. Speed is of the essence to a lot of us, and this decision markedly slows us down. I would request that you, the beta testers, and the design team both read and continue to follow these threads from the Forum on this subject:

Thank you Larry, for sending this request to your AVID contact.

I placed a call to the support line to report this change. Hopefully, they will bring that fonction back. Sit and wait...

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

This additional problem with audio keyframing in 6.5 also needs to be restored. When working with mono tracks, adding a single audio keyframe in the same location on two or more audio tracks, you used to be able to grab one of those keyframes, and with the other tracks active, adjust all keyframes volume at that position simultaneously.

Well, in 6.5, you can only adjust one keyframe at a time per track, instead of multiple identical keyframes simultaneously. This is a serious deficiency and I sincerely hope NOT A DESIGNED CHANGE. I still have yet to get a response from my contact at Avid regarding this. I am attempting to get a reply.

As for me, I've downgraded back to AVID MC 6.0.3. The keyframe issues are just too annoing to work with and REALLY slowing the process.

Will wait to see if AVID fix this. Otherwise, I'll stick to version 6 as long as I can.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

    HI Folks,

Really pleased to find this thread.  I've just installed the 6.5 trial on a brand new top of the line iMac i7.  I'm having the above issues and then some.

I too am missing the in/out option to adjust multiple keyframes.  I could live with the lasso for now if it work at all.  Doesn't matter if I drag left-right or right-left, as son as I click on a keyframe in that selection only the keyframe I click on is selected.  The only way I can select multiples is to click on them individually.  EXTREMELY frustrating and now good for a complicated mix at all.  This must be fixed as a priority.

But I have further issues here, maybe related?

Having imported several files at 720p DNxHD90x (a mixture of pro res files and h.264's) I drop them on the timeline and two seperate audio tracks are created automatically.  I'm assuming MC is treating the audio as stereo split over two tracks for the left and right channels.  However, adjusting the volume on track two using a single keyframe reduces the overall levels on both tracks which is weird.

Furthermore the mute and solo buttons have no effect at all.  Mute both tracks - audio still comes through.  Mute one track - audio still comes through both channels with no drop in levels (as looking at the sudio tool).

Anyone else experienced this or have any ideas?

    Thanks.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

Just as an addition to that - if I open Audio Mixer and select both tracks as mono, use the a keyframe to drop the levels on Track 2 all the way down, the Audio mixer shows no levels coming from track 2 (as you'd expect) but there is no adjustment to the actual volume and the Audio Tool shows levels coming through both channels with no drop in volume.

Try clicking on one audio keyframe that represents the desired in point you want for your region FIRST, THEN draw the lasso from left to right. Make sure you start the lasso in the background area above and behind the highest track in your timeline if the smart tool is enabled to avoid going into segment edit mode while lassoing.

I am having ongoing discussions with design and engineering on these keyframing issues. If and when a development occurs, I will inform the community.

    Hi Snowball,

    Snowball:
Doesn't matter if I drag left-right or right-left, as son as I click on a keyframe in that selection only the keyframe I click on is selected.

Try holding the « Option » key when you do the lassoing, from Left to Right. Then, you should see that all volume keyframes in the lasso area are selected and will stay that way until you double-clic anywhere else in the sequence.

About the other audio bugs, I didn't notice that when I tried the MC6.5. Don't have any clue to give you.

    Sorry !
