    BMD DeckLink 4K Extreme experiences?

Hi, does anybody have experience using the Blackmagic Design DeckLink 4K Extreme card with MC6 + ?

I am thinking of investing in an interface and considering price (£750) this card seems to have good specs, and has some future use with it's ability to handle 4K.

Any thoughts or accounts from actual use would be appreciated !

Re: BMD DeckLink 4K Extreme experiences?

    I've got one in a Mac Pro 4,1, OSX 10.7.5, MC 6.5.x

Performance was a little bit wonky with desktop video 9.7.3

Desktop video 9.7.5 fixed some off the odd behavior (window focus shifting to another blackmagic enabled app required the machine to be rebooted in order to get audio output working in MC.)

in MC 6.5.2 and 6.5.2.1, we were getting a lot of 'bobstream..." type errors in the source monitor. Toggling the hardware off/on seemed to take care of it most of the time.  Additionally, HD->HD cross convert did not work in this version. There was some other general instability (unexplained MC crashes without discernible errors.)

In MC 6.5.3, general performance seems to be much better. Interface performance is significantly improved as well. HD->HD cross convert (1080p>1080i/720p) is now functional. Haven't had enough time with it to say how much better, in terms of percentage.

Haven't tried it with MC7 yet. In general, if your need is mission critical and you cannot have ANY downtime, stick with a Nitris DX. Open I/O with blackmagic hardware seems to be exactly the same as it was in FCP7, which is to say, inferior to AJA, generally buggy, and lacking in advanced granular control when compared to AVID and AJA hardware.

When the card works, it seems to work well, minus the aforementioned lack of advanced control.

Hmm, thanks for your thoughts NY. I guess it is too good to be true given the price.

    Hi flash avid,

If you are interested bluefish444 have just released a new Mac osx install package for our range of video io hardware.

Feedback for our Avid integration has so far been very good on both platforms.
