Any Way To Import DPX or OPEN EXR Files into Avid MC 7.0.2?

    Hi,

I've looked around the net for info on importing DPX and OPEN EXR into Avid.  It seems it wasn't possible as of 2 years ago.  Has this changed?  My problem is that I'd like to be able to import image sequences from a VFX artist as 10-bit files, to preserve the color information of XAVC Intra 100 10-bit source footage.  I know Avid imports Tiffs, but Tiffs, as far as I know, only come in 8-bit or 16-bit flavours and the 16-bit files are huge. It would be great to be able to import 10-bit DPX or EXR.  If this is still not possible with the latest version of Media Composer, can anyone recommend a good mac-based workaround?  Thanks!

    I'd say Resolve Light.

On the other hand I would say install the Aja codecs and Aja "DPXtoQTTranslator" from the Aja website; they are bundled with the software drivers.

Create a QT REF of each Dpx sequence using the translator (this is quick and is of course tiny.)

AMA link and transcode to a 10 bit codec.

I have compared material ingested this way to having DPX's laid of to HDcamSR and it seems to be lossless.

But I really think this should be high on Avid's to do list...

Thanks for the info!  I'll try the Translator.

David this was the exact solution I needed to the problem. Thank you. For anyone else going down this path, be sure to download the AJA plugins for AVID here: http://www.aja.com/en/support/avid then, as David recommended, use their DPC Translator app to create a quicktime from the DPX to load as an AMA in Avid.
