    Import .mpeg into Avid 8

How do I import .mpeg into Avid 8? It appears that it won't let me do it. Do I need to convert .mpeg into something else? I can import. mp4 files from my camera into Avid.

Any more good tips from you to help the OP Douglas

add..  there are tons of external encoders out there that can do the transcode from Mpeg2 to an Avid codec and some of those encoders are free, you do need to have the Avid codec installed on the encoding system however and there is a lite free version of the Avid codecs to use for that if you don´t happen to have Avid installed on that system.

What you do pay for with the ama plugins is that you don´t need any encoding knowledge at all and also for the time you save, just Ama link and let Avid take care of the rest, the origin timecodes as well as other metadata will also be brought in when using this workflow and you will be able to restore the project in the future by just link to that origin clip again

    Tomas,

It is not preferable to risk your workhorse computer looking for "free " utilities or encoders that may or may not carry a malware payload.

Most NLE install whatever codecs necessary for the majority of tasks a buyer might encounter, and add as new formats become necessary.

I understand the concept of AMA, for people dealing with the same media day in day out. For those freelancers its more problematic, however.

Agreed, you always get what you pay for, an old tale but very truth

Seems to be a happy user just posting in this thread linked below btw

    Sorenson Squeeze 9 ROCKS IT!

HTML 5 encoding & MPEG 2 look terrific. Seems more responsive and faster then previous versions. It's not cheap, but I consider it must have.
