    Can't AMA-play Panasonic P2 clips on Avid MC 8.3

    Hi there,

    Happy New Year!

I have successfully installed MC 8.3 on my Macbook Pro 15' Dual core i7 2.3 mhz, 16 gb ram laptop running 10.8 Mountain Lion.

After upgrading almost all plugins (including switching to the latest Panasonic P2 4.3 version), when I try to AMA link any Panasonic P2 cards (pointing to the level before CONTENTS) the AMA clips appear into the bin.

But when I double click them to open them in the player window I get the following error: EXCEPTION: CM_AEFFECT_NOT_FOUND

The thumbnails are there but the video looks either black or striped and kind of damaged.
Could the exception be due to my processor (a dual core as opposed as an Avid supported quad-core?) Or to the fact that I am still running Mountain Lion? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can't help with your problem but can confirm 8.3. P2 plugin 4.3 and 10.8.5 all work with P2 media. I am working in a project today that is almost all P2 AMA linked.

Much of my footage is in this folder structure: HD>FolderX>FolderY>FolderZ>CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.TXT

    Thank you Mark,

Still running on the same problem: can't AMA play Panasonic P2. Anyone else trying to solve the same problem?

Could the problem be due to the fact that I am running OSX 10.8 (not 10.8.5), or that Panasonic hasn't upgraded its P2 plugin for MC 8.3? I suspect that because on the Panasonic website version 4.3 of the plugin is supported with MC 8.2 (no indication of MC 8.3 ...)

Should I downgrade to Avid MC 8.2 (I hate the idea though ...)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My P2 AMA linking has been working when using 720-native DVCPProHD but I've been getting the CM_AEFFECT_NOT_FOUND error when trying to open what is technically 1080/60 footage (24P 1080 DVCProHD stuff where I typically use the motion effect editor to do the pulldown) in a 1080/23.98 project and can only open these clips in a 1080/60 project. I might have to go back to 8.2 for now, got projects to cut and these clips were working fine there.

This just bit me yesterday trying to use footage from a client who insists on shooting 24 over 60 (and can't tell me why, but refuses to listen to me and change.)  I had to remove 8.3 and go back to 8.2.

    Lovely.

I just ran into this, with slightly different circumstances. I have some ProRes MOVs that I linked that are 1080/29.97i. But I know these are actually 23.98 with 2:3 pulldown. So I link them, and then change the field motion to 2:3 Film. Double click and I get the CM_AEFFECT_NOT_FOUND error. Changing the field motion back to Interlaced allows them to be opened in source. I don't get it, and it looks like a bug. For those trying, try changing the Field Motion of the clip in the bin to Interlaced and see if it loads.

Interesting.  Yes it seems to be a problem with the Field Motion function, not P2 specific.  I just changed a Prores Progressive clip to "Progressive Strobe" (whatever the hell that is) and get the same error.

Hi there, I don't believe MC8.3 is qualified to run on any version of Mountain Lion other than 10.8.5

    This could be your problem.

In this case no, it's broken on Windows as well (which is what I'm actually on, I found this thread in a search) so it's an MC thing.

And, in case you were wondering, this is still broken in 8.3.1

This problem still needs to be fixed. I have P2 footage logged in a 1080/59.94 project and a project created with additional footage from a DSLR in a 1080/23.976 project. I cannot view the P2 footage from the 59.94 project in the 23.976 project. I keep getting the same error - CM_AEFFECT_NOT_FOUND. I'm guessing its a mixed frame rate issue with P2 footage. XDCam footage seems fine. I am running Avid MC 8.3.1 on OSX 10.10.2, with the P2 4.3 plugin.

Re: Can't AMA-play Panasonic P2 clips on Avid MC 8.3

Has anyone had any luck with this yet? I'm trying to AMA link 1080 footage that was shot on the "24p" setting of a Panasonic HPX-170 but getting the same exception.

    I'm running MC 8.3.1 on a 5k iMac (OS 10.10.3).

I've also tried using the legacy P2 Import > Clips to Bin to no avail.

The clips play fine through P2 Viewer Plus, so I know they aren't the issue.

Finally, I tried downgrading to 8.2 yesterday, but Avid wouldn't open after that (I assume some issue with the license file), so I've now gone back to 8.3.1.

Are you trying to play AMA footage that was recorded at a different frame rate than the project?

Must think of something clever to go here...
