I have a Panasonic GH4 and normally film in MOV format at either HD or 4K. A customer with a GH2 said he had problems with AVCHD footage from his GH2, so I tried the same thing with my GH4.
You need to set he camer to film in AVCHD. I filmed @ 1080 50i. Record a couple of clips and then AMA link to them in Avid. If you try and play them Avid either locks immediately or plays for a second then locks. This happens if I AMA link to the volume or the individual files.
Try and transcode the AMA linked files and Avid also locks.
BTW locks = Avid freezes and the computer says Avid is not responding. No other error message.
If I import the clips the old fasioned way, file - import, they import and transcode fine.
If I load the clips into other programs - I have tried EDIUS 7, Premiere and Prelude CC 2014 - they work. It seems to be Avid related.
AVCHD footage from other cameras - I have a Sony 3D camera, plus footage from Panasonic 151, AC90 and others - all works ok in Avid.
My tests are using Avid MC8.3 on a PC using Windows 8. My customer has been using MC8.0 on Windows 7.
Anyone else had this problem?
Hi David, could you upload a small build for examinations
Tomas
i've never been able to ama link clips from a gh2 @23.976.
720p/59.940 works ok.
here is the console error message:
the time you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted time...
Hi. Exactly the same problem like David's. It was with MC6 too. So. This is very old bug, in my mind.

I have had problems for several years importing more than 3 AVCHD full length clips at one time, On several different machines, since MC 5.5. I have learned to import no more than 3 at one time, no problems that way.
Using MC 8.4. Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 15/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D

I have had problems for several years importing more than 3 AVCHD full length clips at one time,
My FS 700 cards usually contains somewhere between 100 and 200 Avchd clips.
No probs at all to ama link.
this thread is about files from lumix gh2/gh4!!!
Thanks for the comments so far. I can't upload any clips from the GH2 because they are from my customer. I was going to upload some clips from the GH4 and filmed a few small ones. Then I noticed that Windows explorer reports them as being 720x480 even though EDIUS, Premiere etc all see them as 1920x1080. So there is something odd about them.
I have seen lots of people with problems loading many AVCHD clips over the last few MC versions but I thought they were all solved with MC7/8 and AMA linking and trancoding. For me, my other AVCHD camera footage (from a Sony, Panasonic AGC90, and AG151) has worked fine. Hence asking if people had noticed something speciific with GH4 & GH2 footage in AVCHD format,
One difference between the GH4 and my other cameras is that it is limited to recording 30 minutes. I don't know what difference this would make to the final files, if any.
Hi David, the reason for me to ask for a sample is that there are lots of firmware hacks for those cams floating around ( will give you higher file bitrates than the origin ) and those hacks might not be supported.
From memory 1080 25 p / 50 i should be about 21 mbps and 1080 50p around 28 mpbs
Did any solution come out yet? If the files can't load your avid, then did you consider about transcode them?
Hi
Unfortunately it is unsolved problem from many MC Avid updates. You must convert it using eg. Bigasoft Prores Converter or SUPER. Adobe convert this AVCHD AC3 without sound.
"Adobe convert this AVCHD AC3 without sound." do you mean that Adobe converts this footage inocrrectly as well or is that a typo? I had no problems in Premiere.
Are you using Premiere CC or CS? CS series has no AC3 decoder. So, Adobe CS Encoder will not decode sound from GH2,GH3, GH4 AVCHD AC3.
Hi david,
i have the same problem. my GH2 - in any firmware versions - i had the manufakturer fm and several hacks - the avid mc freeze on linking ama with footage. it seems to be a avid problem. i am realy upset with this stupid error. have to import all the footage....do you have any further solutions?

greetigs from berlin / germany
I am afraid I don't have an answer. It does seem to be an Avid problem. I recently updated the firmware on my camera with no affect.
