    Can't import AVCHD - MC8.3.1/8.4

I've been experimenting with MC8.4 on a PC with the following specs:

    Dell T7500
    2 x Hex Core x5690 CPUs 3.46GHz (3.76GHz in Turbo mode)
    48GB
    512MB SSD

I can AMA AVCHD and transcode but when I try to do an import, nothing happens. There is no message saying that the file is problematic. In fact, I even downloaded an AVCHD file from the web and it was the same result - no import. These are files that I've imported into MC5.5 (my current system) without a problem. I've also tried MC8.3.1 and exactly the same result. I can import other files without a problem but not AVCHD.

Any ideas? I presume import should work? I've tried searching around for any info on this but I couldn't find anything.

    Thanks

I don't really have an answer to the question, but curious - what's the reason for trying to import?  If AMA and transcode works, that's the preferred way.  It's all I use.

It's the same end result - you get Avid-native media.  The difference is, if you AMA, you CAN link back to the original if you choose.  Not so with import.

I appreciate what you're saying. I've been using MC5.5 for a few years and my only way to get AVCHD footage in  is to import as there is no AMA/AVCHD plugin for that version. Naturally, I was expecting for the same thing to work again. Sure, you can AMA and link back etc. but clearly there is bug here (if others can confirm) that needs addressing.

?? Batch Import has been one of the most useful and reliable options with Avid for decades.

FWIW MC 8.4 on a homebuilt W7 SP1 computer. DSMaMa's file imported without issuses here to a new 1080 59i project (took about 30 sec's with the hour glass on the desktop before the import progress screen showed up)

Thanks for the file and thanks for trying the import. Believe it or not, it doesn't work for me - same results as before. There are no errors, no warning messages, nothing. I've installed, uninstalled the sofware a few times including the video driver, QT... but it makes no difference - I can't import an AVCHD file.

    Re: Can't import AVCHD - MC8.3.1/8.4

Just an update on this. I've got two Win7 x64 partitions - one is with my current MC5.5 setup and the other is a Test partition where I can try out things. AVCHD import doesn't work on this Test partition. However, when I uninstalled MC5.5 in my other partition and installed MC8.4., AVCHD import worked! I would actually argue that my Test partition is an a healthier state than my everyday MC5.5. one. Whatever the reason, something in the Test partition cause importing of AVCHD files in MC8.4. to not work. There are no error message or failed imports - nothing happens. Just one of those things that I can't explain.
