    Importing MXF – PMR Issues

    Hi All,

I have been wrestling with this issue all day and any help would be much appreciated!

I have been given a hard-drive with 6 large MXF files that are over 730 GB, I have copied them over to my ‘Avid Media Files’ directory and placed them in the relevant numbered ‘MXF’ folder. However Avid is struggling to find them via media tool!

Any ideas why Avid won’t create the associated .PMR and .MDB files? Thanks in Advance Wink

Wrong location or wrong folder name?  Wrong MXF type?

Avid MediaFiles folder, then MXF folder, then numbered folder at the root level of a drive.  The names must be spelled EXACTLY as shown.

Also, the MXF files must be the type that MC expects.

These two conditions must both be met for the media to work in MC.  The size of the files might also cause it to take a while to index, once you have those conditions met.

Exactly - there are many ways that the MXF container is used.  Avid MediaFiles would be only one of these ways.  So, try to determine whether the files were created by Avid, or whether they came from something like a camera.

Are the MXF files contained within a larger folder structure of any kind?  If so, this almost certainly means they came from a camera, and you'll probably need to download and install the correct AMA plugin for that camera format, and then link to the root of the folder structure rather than the individual MXF files.

But before anything else, indeed - try to determine where those files came from.  That'll help determine the next steps.

Okay so it seems the footage has come straight from EVS, so it does not look like Avid will recognise the media!!

I am currently using Media Exchange to re-wrap each EVS_MXF file to 'Avid MXF OPAtom'

Is this correct? I have a long Wait!!!

Did you try linking to them?  The only thing you've tried so far is putting them in the Avid MediaFiles folder.  Take them out of there, and try linking to the original files instead.  You might then be able to consolidate.   I don't know if this will work, I've never tried the format.

If that doesn't work, then it seems that re-wrapping the files to Avid MXF OP-Atom is probably the right way - then, put those in an Avid MediaFiles numbered folder and use the media tool.
