MC8 list tool EDL save as one file error

    hello.

I see in the new list tool that you cancreate EDLs with multiple video layers in one go.

There are 2 options, save as one file and save as multiple file.

The latter is the same as previous EDL manager exports as it makes one EDL per video track, great.

but the save as one file puts all video tracks into one edl and yet does not distinguish between each video track.

if you export audio tracks you can see in the EDL it clearly states A01, A02 etc for each edit.  But with m,ultiple video tracks it just says "V" for every event, making it impossible for other programs to decifer between each edit in the list.

How is thi option even usebale?  We keep receiving these EDLs from freelance editors working elsewhere and that is because it isnt really very clear in the list tool what saving as one file is doing.  Editors are simply thinking, hey, thats easier.

anyone seen this or had some workaround?

    thanks

Re: MC8 list tool EDL save as one file error

An EDL is an old format, based on tape editing, and traditionally only would support one video layer. I would be surprised if any EDL template would do more than that.

I think you'd have to export a file for each video layer.

perhaps its considered old, but its still widely used for workflows including a conform.

What I dont understand is why is the option there to save one file with multiple video layers if that fails to seperate them?

It means we are receiving these incorrectly exported EDLs on a regular basis since this new list tool was introduced.
