    8.6.2 Update Crashes on Launch

I just upgraded from 8.6.0 to 8.6.2 via Application Manager on a HP z420 using Windows 10. We have a Quadro 2000 and 16BG of RAM.

After the update, Media Composer crashes after the initial start-up. It is just about to show the User/Project window when it quits unexpectidly. I only get a Windows error "Avid Editor stopped working."

I tried to restart twice. This box is connect to MojoDX hardware. This system appears to still be supported.

    Thanks,

    Marc

Did you say yes to Installing DX hardware?

I had a crash on launch with 8.6.2 and W7 SP1. with a quadro 2000. Restarting cured it.

By choice I do not let the App manager update anything here.
If you need the App Manager for the download then stop it straight after the download finishes.
Move the download to C:\ and unzip it to C:\
Install from the there. (C:\Media_Composer_8.6.2_Win )

    I choose the manual install.
    Good luck.

Re: 8.6.2 Update Crashes on Launch

Exactly the same problem here.  Upgrade from 8.61 to 8.62 via application manager on Win7 machine, Quadro 400 and Quadro K2200 with 32GB system RAM.  Tried a couple of retsrts as well. no difference.

Is there an easy way to revert to previous version 8.6.1?

Did you uninstall 8.6.1 via the Control Panel Programs and Features before installing 8.6.2?

Do you still have the 8.6.1 download or installer?  If so uninstll 8.6.2 and reinstall 8.6.1

I did not uninstal 8.6.1, just used the Aplications Manager to do the upgrade as I usually do.  But I did download the the full version of 8.6.1 a short while ago.  If I uninstall 8.6.2 will I also nee to reinstall and reactiavte all the plugins (i.e. Boris FX, Isotope... etc.)?

    Couldn't wait.  Deactivated - uninstalled - restarted - installed 8.6.1 - restarted - tested a few times.

All OK, back to normal, very smooth reinstallation.

    Thanks

Re: 8.6.2 Update Crashes on Launch

I also tried to update MC  8.6.1 to 8.6.2 through AppManager.  Tried starting MC after the reboot and crashed.  Tried rebooting and starting again, same issue of crashing.  Manually installed MC 8.6.2 from the folder that AppManger saved it in.  After reboot, MC stsrtd and worked as normal.

Crazy AppManager strikes again.  All in favor of firing the AppManager?

Re: 8.6.2 Update Crashes on Launch

    Marc,

I tried Andrew's manual installation advice, worked for me:

    Uninstall 8.6.2

Find 8.6.2 install zipped folder inside Upgrade folder, move it to root of C drive.

Unzip to C drive, manually install with Install.exe file

Throughout process, no need to deactivate if prompted.

It's worth trying this before rolling back to 8.6.1.

    Good luck,

    Mark.

I just uninstalled 8.6.2 and went back to 8.6.1 and my bcc and mocha pro plugins were still there and working.

It's not AppMan that's at fault.  I never use AppMan.

Installing 8.6.2 completely separate from AppMan without AppMan even running got the same result here.  No trouble with 8.6.1, then installed 8.6.2 and MC won't run without a crash before getting to the open project dialog.

Top clarify did you also unzip the download whilst it was at the root level of your C: drive? though from rtbauer experience it seems that you could also unpack it from C:\Avid Downloads\
Did you uninstall MC from the control panel before installing 8.6.2?

Re: 8.6.2 Update Crashes on Launch

There's another thread about this problem, and one of the users there moved the downloaded 8.6.2 zip file to the root of the C: drive, and extracted and installed from there and it worked. Although he posted in the Mac forum, he appears to be using a PC, so it's worth a look:
