Secondary color correction is broken in 8.6.3 [fixed]

Hi, making a new post for visibility and since it's a separate issue/bug.

Secondary color correction now returns way wrong results making the tool useless.
It was already starting to get buggy in 8.6.1 but went all bad in 8.6.3.

    Original replies with info here:
    http://community.avid.com/forums/p/161282/815331.aspx

We have this problem across several machines all on 8.6.3, hp z440/z420, win 7, working in 1080i/50 projects (same on 1080p/25).

Realtime playback/viewing looks ok through a safe color limiter (422), but renders are very glitchy.

    Anyone else have success?

So, secondary color is kind of a big part of the Symphony option, hope this gets worked out soon.

    Thanks,
    Fred

Re: Secondary color correction is broken in 8.6.3

So a quick update while Avid is testing this out.
We found that going into render settings and disabling GPU efects would make secondary color effects look ok. So that's a workaround for now. We have not done a complete system reinstall yet, so if secondary color correction works for anyone else, please let us know about your setup. Win 7/10, driver version etc..

Thanks for letting us know Fred. Was about to make the jump this weekend. Would have been a very miserable Monday trying to figure out what went wrong.

FWIW, no problem on a "below-spec" machine (MS Surface 4 Pro, Win10/1607).

Reason is probably that the GPU is NOT used for Symphony on this machine, the GPU not passing the built-in test during MC start sequence (not enough VRAM).

Not yet tested on my other system.

Re: Secondary color correction is broken in 8.6.3

Just a small headsup if someone is using the "Disable GPU effects" in render settings as a workaround.

Doing so might not make background renders look ok. Only foreground renders. Thats our experience at least.

Already shared this info with Avid on the case thread. They are having trouble reproducing the issue, so a fix might still be a while off.

A small workaround for doing secondary corrections is to use the paint effect.
Paint -> rectangle entire picture or poly tool a selection -> color adjust -> magic mask your color -> sat/hue. Good thing is actual softening of the selection that you don't have in Secondary color tool. Bad thing is it's a bit harder to work with outside of color correction tool.

    fred

PS: haven't tried it with 8.6.4 yet, but the bug is not addressed directly - so a fix would be a happy accident :)

But works on my secondary System with a Quadro 4000.

Re: Secondary color correction is broken in 8.6.3

    So...  It's working again :)

    Did:
-went from quicktime 7.7.8 to 7.7.9
    -clean installed nvidia 362.13 (install from C:\Program Files\Avid\Utilities\Nvidia\ -> advanced -> clean)

So either the upgrade from nvidia 353.82 to 362.13 or the clean install of driver most likely fixed it. Should have done that long ago... geez.

Followed the driver recommendations from documentation too closely:
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/en267087
    http://resources.avid.com/SupportFiles/attach/README_Avid_Editor_v8.6.pdf

Those both list nvidia driver version 353.82.

Although - the workaround way of doing secondary with paint effect will stick with us for many shots.
Like that it's possible to soften the selection/matte which is not possible within the regular secondary correction tab.

Likely the clean install , I even get a BSOD when I did that and then all was working well after a reboot.
