    DV Tape Death Throes

I know this is an ancient format, and at its best Firewire was a hot mess. But for the love of Pete, I still have jobs and work that are in this format! Avid has completely destroyed my ability to work with DV projects.

    • Sometime around 8.3 or 8.4 Avid lost the ability to create DV projects. Only SD is now available. (Even "Custom Settings" wont support 720x480)
    • 8.4.5 was the last version that would output to DV/DVCAM via 1394/OHCP. And even then, the only way to output was a crash record from the timeline. (Which means the framerate is not constant)
    • PAL DV can't hold the frame boundaries, images are offset every few scanlines.
    • You can still create an HDV project (1440x1080) but output to tape is a problem.

The only working solution I have at the moment is to output a 720x486 file into a Premiere DV timeline (to chop off the extra 6 pixels) and then output. (and I cannot tell you how much it pains me to have to use Premiere)

Anyone have a workaround or am I doomed to eternally maintin a Snow Leopard system running MC 6.5.5 (the peak of Firewire's power)?

Honestly? I'd keep running the Snow Leopard system. PS  Want to buy an Adrenaline or a Mojo? Big Smile

HP Z820 16GB RAM Winx64Pro SP1/Xeon 2620 x 2/Quadro 4000 NitrisDX, Fiber client Unity client 5.3 Build 15440, 4 bay SSD dock (Addonics) Custom build: Asus... [view my complete system specs]

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.

With Mondo's suggestion, how about dual boot?

    Symphony v8.8 | OS 10.11.6 • Nitris DX • 12-core MacPro (Mid 2012) • 36 GB RAM • Facilis Terrablock 24EX [view my complete system specs]
