Won't open if not logged into Application Manager

I know the first post from Marianna says after you log in the first time, you can work without an internet connection with Media Composer First.  So far that has not been the case.

So far, the software stops and gives a warning that you must be logged into Appication Manager.  And the two times I have tried to use it since installing, I have gotten the same message.  So my experience is that I have to log on EVERY time and you need to be connected to the internet.

I am hoping not, because I was planning on using the road next week where I will not have an internet connection.  I must be doing something wrong.  Any ideas?

    Should I reinstall?

    Thanks in advance! - Scott

Do not log out the AppMan when you disconnect from your ISP. You will see something linke AppMan is working offline, I tried it on Windows and it launch MC|First.

As long as you log on via app man and then disconnect from the internet First will still launch. But not sure that is much use for working while on the road. You would have to keep the laptop powered to retain that app man status.

Re: Won't open if not logged into Application Manager

Yeah, it doesn't seem like it will work for what I want to do.  Too bad.

I would have hoped that once you registered & installed, it would just work.  Not always at a location with internet access and I do need to power off & reboot my laptop from time to time.

I guess this is more like a phone app that always needs to be connected to the internet to use.

I hate traveling with my Avid dongle, but I guess I'll have to bring it and run Media Composer instead.

Re: Won't open if not logged into Application Manager

Does this explain why I can't open Avid with my dongle?

Many months since I've used it - but have stayed dongle-based for the last 15 years, to avoid this sort of thing.

I've paid my money, how can it be that my licence is 'not valid' - must I play with AppMan?

You must periodically update the dongle to the latest version (or the last version for which you paid). And the dongle is not valid for MC First. For that you need to run the App Manager and be connected to the internet.

Re: Won't open if not logged into Application Manager

Whoops! Misunderstood to begin with; forgot the existence of Media Composer 'First'.

Media Composer is what I need to open and use.
I'm on Media Composer Standard Support Renewal.
(Avid recently got themselves in a tangle 'capturing my payment' but not because of anything I did!)

Logged into Application Manager and installed an update to the Manager itself.

    Now trying to update dongle.
But even with dongle serial no. and system ID, it wants something called 'license file' for the dongle.
Can only find a .pdf in the application folders, which won't open for AppMan.

Hate to ask Marianna without trying the forum first! Can anyone help?

Go into the App Manager and select the Licensing tab. Click on Media Composer. It will show you the Dongle license info. There's a drop-down box there for Actions. Choose Update.

Thanks! I got that far, but the window under 'update' is blank, and that's where it seems to want a 'license file'.

Tried clicking 'Browse', but can only find a .pdf in the application folders, greyed out.

Re: Won't open if not logged into Application Manager

If your support contract is up to date, then you can get the dongle file by logging into your master account. From there, select My product and Subscription. Click on Media Composer, and then Downloads. You should see the a link to download the dongle updater file. That's what you need for the App Manager. Hope this helps.

The updater file extension is .avd. Here is an FAQ, appman 17.5 window is a bit different but the process is still the same

Re: Won't open if not logged into Application Manager

We have found an issue where when trying to log in to the application manager after installing Media Composer first, you get a message saying the avid servers are busy, try later.....but this keeps happening.

Yet I can log in to app manager on the pc with media composer full version installed.
