I just opened an older project that contains only AMA Linked 23.976 DNxHD 115 Quicktime Movies and I can't do absolutely anything in it.
Every clip and timeline gives me the "Exception: Cannot create the AMA sample mapper to play this clip" error. Really this is Avid DNxHD Media and it can't play it back. Guess I'm going to have to move back to 8.8.5.
I figured I'd give 8.9 a try because all my projects are completed and I'm starting a new one tomorrow. It's all going to be AMA Linked DNxHD 36 Quicktime Movies and I fear that it won't be able to play that back either.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be much appreciated.
Ok now this makes even less sense.
I created a new project and AMA linked several of the 23.976 clips with the same results. Just for the heck of it though I AMA linked to a True 24p DNxHD 115 Clip and a 25i DNxHD 120 Clip in this 23.976 Project and they open and playback with no issues.
Now how can that be possible.
It gets even worse.
I can't consolidate, transcode or do a video mixdown on any of the 23.976 media but I can with the 24p and 25i Media.
What the hell this is ridiculous.
With all the stupid ridiculous bugs that are showing up in Avid, Premiere Pro and so on I'm starting to wonder if any developers are actually using Beta testers anymore. Great we've added all these wonderful new features but your going to have to sacrifice things that have worked for the last ten years. Or in this case let's just render your project completely unusable.
did you reinstall the corresponding ama plugin or updated to the latest ama plugin version? I had this error with canon material. reinstalled avid manually and updated to the latest ama plugin resolved my error. good luck. andre.
Honestly I hate editing.
There are no installers or this AMA Media, it's part of the built in Quicktime Plugin.
If I'm wrong about this would someone please provide me with a link as I haven't been able to find one anywhere.
Brent

Update, the 23.976 and 24p DNxHD Quicktime clips have no issues in a 24p project.
It's just the 23.976p Quicktimes in a 23.976 project that have this problem.
Got it Brent
Got support on this one for you under case # 03265762
I have discovered a problem which may be related.
I tried linking to some Canon footage in 8.9.0, no matter what I did MC crashed after a spinning beachball.
I tried linking to the same footage in 8.8.5 and was able to. I then moved the bin to the 8.9 system and could open the linked clips from the bin.
Running 8.9.0 on a MacPro 5,1 2x 3.06Ghz 6-core, 48GB RAM OSX 10.11.6 Latest canon AMA plugin
Hi Rob....
I created a case n this one 03266625 and asked that they look at Brent's case too see if there is any correlation. They might ask for some footage so they can try and reproduce so be ready....
Not sure what changed.....
Looks like I solve the issue.
Glad you fixed it.
Always a good lesson: whilst it's great to be able to carry user settings from a machine to another, it's best to create a new one from scratch when you update the software.
I always do that - I've been bitten in the past. I have a screenshot of my keyboard layout, and a written list of the basic settings I alter, and making a new user from scratch only takes 5 minutes.
I think you misunderstood me.
It wasn't my Avid User that created the problem as I stated in the previous post.
I imported it and everything is working great.
It was the uninstall, folder and preference cleanups that fixed the problem.
Can't say foresure which one but I did a complete cleanup before reinstalling MC and that's what fixed it.
thanks for update.... Good to know it fixed it.
