    Why can't I Resize a 4K image without break-up?

    Folks:

I recently purchased a JVC GY-HM170U 4K camcorder. While it seems to record wonderful images, I have found that when editing I cannot push in on the image any further than I sued to be able to with regular old standard resolution images. I had thought/hoped that I would be able to push in quite a ways with a 4K image.

I record in AVCHD files, transfer those to my drive, then Link using Source Browser in Avid Media Composer. But when I Resize those images, they start to break up at only 140%... I tried directly importing the same file (instead of Source Browsing) and got the same effect.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks, as always.

    Tom

How are you doing the resize?

You should be using FrameFlex which is available in the Source Settings (right-click on the clip in the bin) or once you've edited a clip into the timeline the FrameFlex effect will be available in the Effects Editor for clips that are larger than the project raster.

Sorry I just realised you're using MC First, so I don't actually know if this is the same as regular MC.

But I'll check it out. About all I've used Frameflex for thus far is reformattijng media that gets imported at the wrong size... Will try it, thanks!

    Re: Why can't I Resize a 4K image without break-up?

Tom, when I've IMPORTED 4k I see it is always downscaled to FHD which seems to preclude reframing a UHD image into an FHD image.

I have assumed that if I LINKED to a UHD file the imported would have to be UHD--so zooming in would work using a keyframed Resize FX. Please post what you learn.
