How do I export 10-bit uncompressed files?

Everyone tells me that 10-bit uncompressed files are the archival standard for museums and other institutions.  How do I output and how do I know for sure that it is 10-bit uncompressed?

Well, I have read that as well, but in reality it is not always so.  Uncompressed files are huge.  Storiing and maintaining this amount of data imposes a high cost on any organization.

I am seeing the requests becoming various forms of "Lossless Compression" that are open source.  Most important is to deal directly with the archivist in question.

Thanks, Jef.  But, if I want to TRY to export 10-bit uncompressed from my Media Composer, how exactly do I do it?  Or at least get close.  Don't care how large a file it is; this is for posterity.  (ha ha).

Re: How do I export 10-bit uncompressed files?

Well the best I can offer is (based on 8.9.3):

Right click on Record window / Export / Export settings - navigate to Untitled - press Options

Choose Export As: Quicktime Movie / Custom / Format Options / compression settings / Avid 1:1x

Now this is leaving out many selections you need to make on the way that must be gotten correct.  AND ...

I am not sure that file will be an uncompressed file that other applications will understand.  You need to test, test, test.

Plus it is using old quicktime tech which is not the best.  And I am not even sure this will work on a Windows system ( I am Mac based).  So not sure how much I am helping.

    Good luck,

    Jef

Custom exports and imports into MC are always 8 bit.
