    Background queue won't start

I'm using Media Composer 8.9.3 and I'm having problems with the background services.

Initially, it wasn't loading properly so I followed advice already posted on the forum about overcoming this:

I've already done a clean reinstall of Avid.

Before that I also deleted the Editor transcode folder

And I deleted all old files from the User folder - can't recall which now - following the advice of others having the problem.

I've reached the point where the background queue now loads correctly in a browser, but after a short while completely fails with either one of these errors on apparently random files:

Exception: Exception: Failed to build pipes for play operation - see console for details.

Exception: Exception: Cannot create the AMA sample mapper to play this clip - SelectFileMob() failed.

I can post the console output but I'm unclear about which output is relevant - are the most recent entries at the top or bottom?

    Help much appreciated.

    Re: Background queue won't start

Open the Console and clear the text, run the background task (consolidate? transcode?) till it aborts, go back to the console, the last bunch of lines should be the relevant ones. It seems to me an AMA issue rather than background services.

    Re: Background queue won't start

    Thanks Luca

Just done another test now and here are the results:

    First I cleared the console.

Then I did a test background render on one clip (C100 AVCHD).   The job failed with the error Exception: Exception: Failed to build pipes for play operation - see console for details.

Then I opened the console but it's completely empty - no messages at all.

The only thing I can guess that might have created this problem is upgrading from MC 8.9.x to 8.9.3

Added to this, I am able to transcode the footage using manual transcoding and the same drives and files.

What kind of task You send to the background queue when the error pops up?

Same issue here, 8.9.3 as well, trying to run 4k footage from a C300 on an external USB 3.0 to DNxHR LB on my media drive (OSX).  The C300 footage fails to run as does some H264 cellphone footage on the same external.  Background services icon is red.  I can Stop them and Start them, but it fails to start properly.  Nothing in Console.

    Re: Background queue won't start

To complete this thread, I just thought I'd share the solution to this problem, reached with the assistance of Avid Technical Support.  It was found that setting the Windows User Account Control to the lowest setting solved the problem and allowed the background queue to start again.
