    Audio Track numbers on import

I've got some scratch VO files that have a time stamp in the name - "2017-Dec-20_08-08-12.wav".

Whenever Avid import or AMA's the file - it assigns the track number to the last digits in the file name. This particular file gets assigned Track 12 - I've also got Track 20 and 33. Modify options wont let me change the track number.

I know I can rename the file and the track number isnt a real big deal for me in this case - just seems like weird behavior.

I didnt see anything in the Audio import settings - any one see this before?

Re: Audio Track numbers on import

You need to first unlink the linked AMA media before modifying the tracks.

With linked AMA clips only (this will not work with transcoded clips)  right click on clip(s), modify, unlink media.  This will unlink all the select clips, right click on all unlinked media clips and select modify clip, from drop down menu inside modify clip menu select set tracks, select the tracks you want, click OK.  Relink all of the unlinked media you created and only the selected tracks will be present.

That's not what the TS means. TS simply mentions that a monophonic WAVE file with a file name ending at 'xyz-12.wav' will end up as a clip with just A12.

After a quick test, its seems that any file (audio at least) with a hyphen followed by a number (-12, -20, -33) right before the file type (.wav) gets imported on a track that correlates to that number.

Yes, I think it's the way that multichannel sets of monophonic WAVE files identify track numbers in BWF field recorders.

Have to say that I'm not a fan of using hyphens etc. in file names at all. Not so relevant to you, obviously.

I'm an underscore person myself in file names, but our VO just ripped off a quick scratch record into her laptop and thats how the file got named.

    Learned something new today.
