Hi,
I've got six HP Z820s with 32GB of RAM running windows 7 and MC v8.6.5. It's been incredibly buggy, so I am planning to upgrade Media Composer.
We are on an ISIS 5500 and Interplay system.
Any suggestions on what version of MC we should upgrade to? Last month and Avid tech told me v8.7.2 was most stable version currently, but I'd love some additional input. Thank you!
Sounds like you should do two of the six machines as a trial. As a side note I believed the 8.2.xx versions very reliable.
Using MC 8.10. Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 15/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D
It's getting a bit old but so far 8.5.3 has been the best one.

With MC 8.6.5 Interplay 3.x (where x = 4 and up) is the killer. From MC 8.8.5 things get noticably better.
Within a few weeks I'm planning to do a Interplay 3.6 to 2017.2 update with MC 8.9.4 or MC 8.10. I will let you know the result.
Rolling back to Interplay 3.4 and MC 8.2.13 is also an option.

Thank you! Please let me know how your update goes. We are running Interplay 3.6.1 and have definitely noticed issues with MC 8.6.5.
It's great to know that Interplay works better with 8.8.5. Have you had any issues with 8.8.5 otherwise? Any consistent bugs or errors that I should be aware of before deciding to update to that version? I saw someone that several users were having problems exporting embedded AAFs for audio delivery in that version, but I don't know if this is a common problem.
Hi Melissa,
I have several sites in Greece running the same combination you have. The amount of problems depends highly on the workflows used, with the main problem producing features being dynamic relink in media composer, interplay access, interplay capture, airspeed, stp, transcode, media indexer.
To answer your question, yes we still had issues with 8.8.5. and how it handles alpha key effects in combination with transcoding. These issues are supposed to be fixed in MC 8.9.2 and up and in IP 2017.2 but for some reason Avid decided not to publish the fixes implemented in 2017.2. Go figure... My real world tests and tests in the Avid lab in Pinewood are pending.
In case you didn't know, A 'new' key rule is to have the media indexer server and client always on the latest version. In case of the media indexer this is documented. In case of Access... let's say I do not care too much about the compatibility matrix anymore. Just try the highest version that seems to work and if it doesn't, for example because you need to use OMF media from an archive, you just go back to the highest version that does.
I've had some AAF related issues but but most were interplay checkin/checkout related. Only once with Nuendo but that was Nuendo related.
