Re-using a source video file without transcoding again

If I import/transcode a file, I see that MXF DNxHD is created in C:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 (and other MXF files for the audio tracks). If I re-import the same file from a different project, it will need to transcode again. Is there any way to re-use a file that was already transcoded to MXF DNxHD without having it go through re-transcoding?

I believe this would be the answer to my own question:

It did work for me on a Windows system too.

Yes simple. Put the masterclip or a copy of it in a new bin. Transfer that new bin to the new project and it can access that media directly.

Take care with this approach of sheared media as media management gets more complex. If Project A finishes first and you delete all the related media then Project B will lose that shared media.
