Unable to Turn a 1080p project into a 720p project

Imported my video into a 1080p 24 fps project, thinking that later on, I could convert to a 720p project to have some flexibility with the framing of my interviews.  After some initial editing, I try to convert to 720p, and everything is greyed out. No options, no possibility to convert.  Clearly I'm missing something. Any help is super appreciated.

EDIT - by creating a new 720p project, and then opening the bin and 1080 sequence of the 1080p project, it looks like I can do what I want.  This seems like an odd and unnecessary set of steps to force users to go through.  I think this could be made better in future versions.

Media Composer 8.X (usually newest release), Avid matrix-recommended versions of both Nvidia driver and Quicktime, Matrox Mini MX02, Self-built machine... [view my complete system specs]

I spend most of my time between New York and Los Angeles.  In Nebraska.

Re: Unable to Turn a 1080p project into a 720p project

Are you using a different frame rate in the 720p?

You should be able to the Format tab in Media Composer and choose from many different frame sizes that share the same frame rate... for instance 4k 29.97, will have a 1080p 29.97 , 1080i 59.94, and a 720p option to choose from as well.

Other options for other frame sizes with different frame rates will be greyed out.

If you have different sources with different frame rates the best process is to create projects in those different frame rates and then open the bins in another.

For instance, a while back I worked on a project that had content from around the world... I had 25p, 29.97, and 23.98 footage.

I created a project for 25p, one for 29.97 and one for 23.98. And then opened each project and imported the respective footage into each one.

I settled on 23.98 as the frame rate I wanted to deliver. So within the 23.98 project, I opened each of the other two projects footage bins. Then I could edit the footage with different frame rates together and Media Composer did all the conversions to 23.98.
