    10 bit color correction

I am on a Media Composer 7.0.3. I want to color correct in 10bit, but the color correction tool says 8 bit and I cant find a place to change the setting. Does anyone know if it can be changed to 10bit, and how its done?

    Thanks!

    Re: 10 bit color correction

The colour corrector always works in 12 bit.

The units it displays can be changed by clicking the third tab on the interface called Correction mode settings, for both RGB and Luma values.

(Hopefully the revamped CC tool will work in 16 bit and use the current full headroom in MC and not clip outside 0-255)

To work in 10 bit your must be in an X resolution (as DNxHD 185X or DNxHR HQX etc).

Then MC recognizes and works fine with 10 bit.

P.S. As soon as your footage is 10bit, otherwise there is no point.

And of course even if your footage is 10bit and you work in 10bit resolution and grade the end viewer will only see it in 8 bit....

However editing in 10bit eliminates banding.

Even if the viewer will see it on 8 bit the banding will not be there.
