Trim to A or B Side shortcut key selects random trim modes

    Hey

Hitting the shortcut key on my AVID Logickeyboard selects trim A, or B side, but sometimes it turns red, Ovewrwrite Trim and sometimes Yellow Ripple trim. Why is that?

Avid tells me it's supposed to default to yellow, ripple trim.

I think you are using the smart trim tool, if your mouse cursor is nearer the top of the clip in the timeline, you are able to use the overwrite (red)trim tool

if you mouse is nearer the bottom of the clip the smart tool turns yellow and is a ripple trim tool.

I don’t use the smart trim tools, I’m going from memory, I’ll check next time I’m on the system.

Smart tools are activated or deactivated on the left side of the track lights in the timeline.

you think correctly. I am using the smart tools... that's all on purpose. All tools selected. That's not the issue...

the issues is that when I press the keyboard shotcut key. Trim A or B side (doesn't matter) The trim mode should default to YELLOW, Ripple Trim, which is what I want. BUT sometimes, and quite often, it starts RED, the overwrite Trim. Whay is that?

Sure i can turn off RED overwrite trim, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having the smart tools turned on.
