    Unable to Open Help Files

I just upgraded to MC 8.5.3 and tried to open the help utility and clicked Help > Media Composer Family Help and nothing happens.  I see the Help folder in Program Files\Avid\Avid Media Composer is loaded with HTML files.  Shouldn't Avid have its own window in which to open help (it did in previous versions)?  This computer is offline and does not have a browser program.  Thanks--

Did you tried to reinstall MC just in case files got corrupted?

    Thanks,

Re: Unable to Open Help Files

I have not tried MC reinstall, wanting to see if anyone else had a similar issue.  Reinstall seems a daunting task.

I found MCHelp.chm MC 7 for download but was reluctant to try that if installing it in MC8.5.3 it might cause problems.

Do you know if Help use requires presence of a browser program?  It did not seem so in 6.0. Also, I do remember vaguely that Help had to be installed seperately.

I am grateful for your reply.

Re: Unable to Open Help Files

Per your suggestion (and so that I may have access to the MC Help files offline) I am trying to uninstall the recent installation of MC 8.5.3 .  Application Manager [Offline Mode] would not initialize.  So I downloaded and installed the most recent Application Manager which replaced the previous version.

The Application Manager 2818.10 interface apears but when "Open" is clicked nothing happens though ApplicationManager.exe and AvidAppManHelper.exe are present and running in Task Manager.

When "Media Composer" in the Application manager is clicked, that program opens and seems to run fine.  However, the display flashes a blank black screen a couple of times when loading MC.

I searched but have not found any remedies.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Unable to Open Help Files

    Hello:

I chose this forum since I was starting a new version of MC.  I have been using MC for several years.

Since I am not getting any help, do you think that I should post my uninstall/reinstall problem as a new post on another forum?

    Thanks so much--

I don't have MC8.5.3 I got 2018.8 right now, when I open the help file it open up the browser, I can only assumed 8.5.3 also needs browser program.

Re: Unable to Open Help Files

Current MC versions use the default web browser to display the help pages.

So you will need a browser to see the html help files.

Re: Unable to Open Help Files

Adding Firefox made it possible to use the help files.  There is a problem framing the text appropriately within the borders of the browser window.  Maybe the help files were designed for another brand of browser.
