What X299 boards are you builders liking?

    Greetings,

Considering a new DYI build around the Intel i9-7940X. It seems like the sweet spot and seems liked by several others here. (AND you get to say "tetradeca-core" which has got to be way more fun than hex-core).

I've used ASUS and Gigabyte boards for various past builds. What motherboards are you X299 builders happy with?

    Thanks.

Very happy with the Gigabyte Aorus x299 'cuz I can add a two port Thunderbolt III card. The only problem is that when you add the Tbolt card, the second PCI video card slot gets obstructed. A PCI extender cable solves the problem, handily.

The old “sweet spot” conclusion that you got from puget is not very accurate imo.

    i got a 7940x and wish I had 18 cores.

cant complain, but thought I’d say that about pugets findings because many people like me believe(d) it.

of course it comes down to cost per core (not sure what current prices are), but definitely come up with your own conclusion.

upon further review it is hard to beat the price of a 7940x... I got it at a time when it was more expensive, and it may have made more sense to go with the 18 core. but with current prices, the 7940x is a great choice.
