    Workflow issues with P2 ingest

We have a Unity for news here in New Delhi and recently migrated our news ops to the Panasonic P2 format. On tapes reporters used to log tapes using MediaLog and handover to the ingest operator who would ingest only relevant media represented by the timecodes.

So if there was a 10min tape of which only 1min was needed we could ingest only the desired minute. With P2 cards, cant use TC and we are forced to ingest the entire 10min mxf file instead of the desired 1min! Is there any P2 user out there who has worked out a clean way of doing this - short of making reporters mark their clips before ingtesting them OR making the camera (HVX200) make subclips every 2min - do let me know.

Re: Workflow issues with P2 ingest

The options you mentioned are the only work around we've found either. We tell our cameramen to, as often as possible to stop and then right away restart the camera, thus creating smaller clips. At first, if doing an interview they would let the camera run for the whole time but now they stop then restart during the interviewer and that helps, sort of. Of course if what's being said lasts for 10 minutes and the cameraman can't stop, you're out of luck.
