x264 and x265 - edit: or even better NVENC

These are free right?  Shouldnt media composer implement these into the export options?

EDIT: x26x & NVENC export via AMA/media processor export settings which uses hyperthreading (unlike quicktime export).

Via the QT engine? That would have been the old way but using the QT export engine has its issues.

Why via the QT engine? Just implement some FFMPEG, or whatever, so we won’t need to 2-step for a quick Vimeo upload of a WIP cut.

    Re: x264 and x265

I agree a direct route would be great,  However, there is a little two-step that's pretty quick.

First, Export As: Avid Media Processor using any of the Panasonic AVC Long-GOP (H.264) options.

Then run the resulting mxf file through ffmpeg with paramerters such as:

    -i myfile.mxf -vcodec copy -c:a aac -b:a 320k -ar 48000 -o mynewfile.mp4 (Video gets copied, not reencoded, so it's fast.)

(And FWIW, I've always found Pat helpful.)

    Re: x264 and x265

I've been doing some tests.  I'll get back to you on your work around, but it looks like exporting a 90min doc to avc is not very quick.

My latest experiments have been encoding h265 with NVENC using handbrake.  its litteraly double the speed of x265.

It looks like the nvenc from nvidia is free to use.  Media Composer should really implement NVENC into its media processor export engine so we can export h264 and h265 at blazing speeds.

Again, it is a user forum. Feature requests will be discussed, which is often most helpful in getting to the core of the matter — even if we don’t always like the feedback we may get. Nobody is forcing you to read any of it. And taking or making any of this personal is definitely not constructive.

    Re: x264 and x265

I just installed this plugin into adobe media encoder, and it encodes h265 so freaking fast using NVENC with the cuda option selected.

    a 70min UHD mxf to: 720p h265 in 9.5 minutes.  100% gpu usage.

How is it possible that a guy working on his spare time making freeware can implement a plugin for AME, and Avid, a company collecting subscriptions, cannot come up with a decent web export option?

    Re: x264 and x265

That's funny.  And here I thought the point of a feature request was to get software developers to improve software.

Please, blow me away with your solution. hahahah

I think I know a few peoples workflow for this.

smrpix: long gop h264 then ffmpeg to mux audio

you: mixdown then sas (i dont think sas works for uhd)

jo terberg and mine:  ama mxf then AME or other program.

I still think h264/5 out of media processor with NVENC (which is rarely mentioned in these forums) or x26x would be pretty great.

I apologize for my past remarks.  sorry.
