2 monitors in media composer 2020.4

    Hi all,

I have 2 monitors. My primary monitor is on the right. Media composer seems to default to the left side monitor as host panel one, with the menus and workspace dock etc. Is there a way to have my primary display on the right as host panel 1, so the menus and such appear on that one instead?

I am on media composer 2020.4.

I'm quite certain it won't work, but have you tried telling windows to use the other screen as primary monitor?

You used to be able to drag your monitor and timeline windows to your primary screen and vice versa with project and bins, save that to site settings etc. I'm sure you may be able to do the same with 2020 too.

All of the panels can be floated. Click on the circle with the down triangle (upper left of each panel) and select Float This Panel. You can now drag things where you want. The only thing you can't float is the workspace bar. That's locked to the primary host panel.

I’ll give that a go tomorrow.

I have been able to have my primary monitor show up as panel 1 in media composer via the windows display manager or whatever it’s called these days. I drag my primary monitor on the right so it’s the left hand side monitor in windows. But of course, I have to move my mouse off the right hand side of my primary monitor in order for the mouse curser to appear on my second monitor that’s physically on the left. Not really a satisfactory work around. But it does indicate it’s about what’s set as the left hand side monitor in windows.

I think they show up there by default on 2020.4. Moving windows around isn’t the issue. It’s what screen media composer puts the menus and workspace dock on, as well as convenience and reliability when switching to one monitor display when that monitor isn’t panel 1. This can also affect a few other things such as roll edit that aren’t really relevant to go into. I don’t think it’s a 2020.4 issue as I’ve had these niggles on other versions, but the new ui makes me want a fix to it.

Panel one in media composer should really default to the primary monitor whichever side it’s on. I don’t understand why it wouldn’t. Does everyone have their bins monitor on the right?
