Spectramatte with multiple layers please help

OK, I've got two people, each as separate clips that I want to chroma key and place right next to each other.

Layer 1 is pure white text effect, layer 2 is talent "A" with spectramatte effect, layer 3 is talent "B" with DIFFERENT spectramatte effect. However, it appears that layer 3 is taking the exact same properties as the effect in layer 2. When I change up Layer 3's effect, I see no change. So my two people are right on top of each other and I can't separate them.

How do we do multiple layers with spectramatte?

    Thanks.

Re: Spectramatte with multiple layers please help

I've had to do something similar a while back and I've exprienced the same "buggy" behaviour in Spectramatte.

I don't know if this helps - I had the "main background" (imported PSD layer) on V1 with talent A on V2, Spectramatte applied.  My second background on V3 (QT movie imported from After Effcts), talent B on V4 with Spectramatte, and then both V3 and V4 collapsed into one track and corner pinned with 3D warp to a "plasma monitor" on my main background layer on V1.  The keying properties, including position, were different for Talent A and B.  Only Talent A would not budge from it's default centered position no matter what I did in the postion properties in SpcMtte.  My workaround was to mixdown the layers I had to corner pin as well as the main backgorund layer into one clip, and then apply talent A with it's spectramatte effect to that.  Not ideal, but it worked.

"Not ideal" is right. Am I to understand that Avid does not permit mutilple layers of spectramatte without performing a video mixdown? That seems silly.

That's the only way I could get mine to work.  I might be wrong.  Maybe someone else has a better solution

Sounds like some deep nesting techniques to me personally.  Always fun compositing complex elements.

Ok, well I just upgraaded from 2.2.7 to 2.5.1 and they seemed to fix it, because it works just fine now.
