No audio, capturing analog through digital camera

    I am using my Sony Z1U to capture hi8 video/audio from a Sony TR81.

The video looks great, and I tested the DVD outut and it looks great.

My problem is the audio will not flow through to be captured by Avid.

The Z1U is receiving the sound, and it shows up on the meters, I can even adjust the levels using the Z1U's dials, BUT the audio does not flow through to Avid.

I have searched the forums using treams like "no audio" analog capture" and other terms, but I see no posts. I have adjusted many( HEHE maybe too many ) settings in Avid. Which leave me to ALSO ask, is there a simple way to roll back Avid captuire setting to the defualt?

I bet I am not doing something simple, BUT the Mute is not on, nd yes there is audio on the tape I am capturing. Any help would be appreciated.  I am not using the mojo.

Perpetual Improvement. If I stand on your shoulders, I will tell you what I see. I hope you do the same, when I give you a boost up.

Have you actually tried a capture or are you just waiting for the meters to move. I have seen a couple of instances where the audio is coming in fine but not showing on the meters or in the monitoring.

Thank you both for the replys.

Stopped short of plugging audio into the line-in, and instead
plugged into the mojo, kind of...This would NOT transfer audio and
    video at the same time.

Using head phones to monitor the audio of the TR81, and the LCD screen to
monitor video. We "trusted" the "levels" when I recorded audio.

Used S-video from the TR81 into the Z1U, and firewire ilink into
the mojo for video. (BTW When  attempts at connecting the TR81 straight
into the mojo the video was TOO JITTEERY). Some say a  TBC time
base corrector is needed. These cost between $200.00-$500,000.00.
Before buying one tried this method.

Used RCA red/white to connect the TR81 into the mojo for audio,
bypassing the Z1U. Then, had to make 2 passes, one recording audio,
one recording video. There has to be a better way,  dont have it....YET.

It must be something simple, or not.

I did get'er done, and posted a workup on the other forum.

Re: No audio, capturing analog through digital camera

If you're using v5.6x, it's not your fault; a bug was intruduced after v 5.5.3 which prevents proper audio capture using A/D converters (such as your camcorder). Only analog passing through Mojo still seems to work.

A workaround would be to record to and capture from a DV tape. Otherwise, a complete uninstall and re-install of 5.5.3 might work.

According to BLKDOG, Avid is aware of the problem but hasn't put it on the front burner yet:

I'm looking forward to the fix as much any anybody!

    Good luck!

Yes, I am using toolkit 5.6

They can call that "bug" BUT   I call that BROKEN. The mojo is suposed to easily convert analog, and it does not.

In the spirit of the hoildays, I will go easy on Avid, but ,,,,,,,,,

    HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS

Re: No audio, capturing analog through digital camera

    levybreaks,

I am also experiencing the missing audio bug, I'm using a Sony DVMC-DA2 to grab some

video from my cable box, simple. I also tried to use my ZR80 as an A/D and still the same thing. Direct

capture off tape works fine from all my cams.  I've seen this in v5.6(orig) and 5.6.4.  We'll just have to

wait for the fix, hopefully soon.

fingers crossed, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year,

Re: No audio, capturing analog through digital camera

I'm not sure if this is related or not, but I'm using a Digital8 camcorder and trying to capture using FW into Avid.  I get the video fine, but there is zero audio coming through to avid and I really need the audio.

    Audio is on the tapes
Audio will play on the camera even when capturing (just not on the computer)

I've tried two different cameras, 5 firewires, messed with Avid's capture settings, and tried changing the audio settings on both cameras ... still nothing.  Tricky stuff wot.
