    edl problem

when we do a speed change in Avid, the edl is translated incorrectly. A speed up of 150% shows up in edl as 33% (slo-mo) in edl...what gives???

    Re: edl problem

It has always been that way and now, with timewarps, it's worse. EDLs have always loosely translated Motion FX. I have always recreated them by hand in online.

BTW, The EDL template I've found that translates the FX the closest is the CMX 3600.

    Re: edl problem

Why? Because EDLs are, in all practicality, a thing of the past. Very few in the industry today actually migrate to a tape-based online system and the market for those that do is so small that it really doesn't justify the R&D dollars.

    Re: edl problem

I disagree...we still on-line a good bit of our work. In most cases its not an issue, correct....but why have an edl if it doesnt work!!

    Re: edl problem

You can disagree if you want but, the fact is, you are in a minority these days. Also, it's not that the EDLs don't work, they do, it's just that the templates have not been rewritten to update technology like Timewarps and their variable speed rates. Just as Edit controllers are no longer updated to keep pace with NLE technology. They are just growing farther and farther apart as EDLs become obsolete. Not an ideal trend for your scenario but there you are.

What Controller are you using and are the speed changes triggers, nodes or pegs?

    Re: edl problem

We are using an Axial 2020....but in this case the edl was sent to the transfer house and unfortunatly the speed ups were transfered incorrectly and we now dont have enough footage to online.

Yes, this is our mistake for not catching it, but in the heat of battle....

    Re: edl problem

There are some known bugs with certain versions of edl manager. I've been caught out in the past, and Avid had fixed the problem, but I wasn't aware of the release.

I'm not saying that this problem has a fix, but do check your version, and the knowledge base for information.

    Re: edl problem

I believe that's correct. What EDL Template did you send to the Tape house?

FWIW, I have had the worst problems with Axial systems.
