Disk label not getting into edl

I've put information into the disk label column in the audio bins, when I create an edl, and select disk label in Reel id Type, I only get the tape name, and errors in the console.
Its the same going back to the edl that came with xpro 4.8.4, so I must be doing something wrong.
Alternatively is there a way of getting the disk label to be shown along with comments clip names etc
    Thanks St.John

Was the disc label added during the import from the disc, or afterwards?

On a related note (I think) its also currently not possible to get the labroll instead of the Tape name in a video EDL. In fact I don't think you can get anything other than Tape currently.

I have seen LabRoll and SoundRoll work, so there must be some other issue or version of EDL Manager that you are using.

Re: Disk label not getting into edl

For the Labroll at least, and I would presume this holds true for the Soundroll, we've found that the max character count for your Labroll is 4. So, if like the telecine house we used, your labroll comes in as 000123, you would need to shorten that to 0123 in order for it to show up in an EDL.

Also, if you're cutting from subclips, simply changing the master clip won't work, even though it looks like all the subclips update. You have to go through and individually update the subclips' labroll column for each sequence with 4-character labrolls.

LabRoll in the bin does not have a limit. I have put up to 128 characters in it. The limitation is based on the EDL type used. Older CMX types have 4 character whereas CMX3600 has 8 I believe. You could always try using a source table with the EDL that allows for longer source names as well.

Re: Disk label not getting into edl

Oh, my apologies for not being clear. I didn't mean to imply that the labroll column itself is limited, only (as Michael says) that the character limitation is on the part of the EDL type. Doing your own test is of course the best option, but I believe that CMX 3600 has a 4-character limitation on the labroll as well, just since that's the type of EDL we were trying to use when we ran into this issue.

    Thanks,

Re: Disk label not getting into edl

Ahh, well that's probably the issue then. Our labrolls are at least 6 characters long and we can't get them down to 4.

Is this a hard limit Michael, or could EDL Manager be altered to accept longer Labroll numbers?

    Thanks

    *EDIT*
Just had a closer look and with EDL Man set to show Labrolls, I find that in 99% of the events it still uses the Tape number, but in the case of a handful of random events it does show the Labroll.

Secondly it seems not to be limited to 4 characters either, since it shows tape names up to 8 characters and equally for the ones it shows, 6 character Labrolls numbers.

I think there is something seriously wrong with EDL Manager and displaying other source types.

    Any ideas?

Re: Disk label not getting into edl

    One more note.

When choosing Labroll, I get the following error in the console for every event which shows the Tape:

"Unable to find Labroll at composition timecode of xx:xx:xx:xx. Using start tc"

Don't get this since FilmScribe does not have any problem finding the Labrolls numbers and everything looks fine in Avid bins.

Re: Disk label not getting into edl

You can always use a CMX3600 EDL which allows more characters in the EDL or use a source table. I am working on a 16 character EDL that will allow file source names such as those for the RED camera to be supported, but may not load in any of the existing online systems. Several manufactures in the DI world are modifying their code to accept such EDL's.

I am also checking into why LABroll is not being accepted. Stay tuned.

Thanks Michael. Not sure if that last part was for me, but I am using CMX3600 EDL's.

I am just hitting "reply" and trying to respond to everyone at once!   ;)

let me know if you want to try the 16 character EDL - in a "use at your own risk" kind of thing for now.

I am having this same problem on Avid Media Composer 7 right now. It doesn't see labroll so it says "using start tc" which is the tape name instead.
