Is this a new installation or an upgrade? If it is an upgrade, was it working before?

You are probably aware that you are running an uncertified system. But in case you are not -

Avid is VERY picky about hardware. You can't install it on just any computer. Visit this link on the Avid site to see the specs and qualified systems.
MCA 2.8.3 on Dell 490 • 4GB Ram • Quadro FX3500 Driver 6.14.10.9185 • Avid rs146 x 2 striped as one • 2 internal 500 GB SATA drives. Edit monitor: Sony... [view my complete system specs]

This is a new installtion. I was using Avid Express DV on this computer and worked fine.

I will have to contact Avid

    Thanks

My Composer 5.01 wont start up.  Each time I tried to start it I get Exception:fatalerror msg: assertion failed:false file\\sre\msmb\local volumn c.line 1929.  I took all the the msfob and ffmid files out.  Also trashed the MCstate file.  Rolled back windows and defragged.  This is my home unit and i have not used it for months.  It will start up if I leave my firewire drive off but as soon as I turn it on the error message turns on.  The firewire drive which is  agdrive is working perfectly.  I am getting sick of all these weird problems.  I have the xw8400 1500 card xp pro.  Any suggestions or maybe I should just download 5.5, would that clear it up.
