Transfer of Audio Files to MC 3.0

I've just recently installed Media Composer 3.0 and have been transferring a project and media files from my old Meridien 8.1.2 system. For some reason it doesn't recognize my audio files as omf's even though it does recognize my video files. Does anyone have any thoughts about this. So far Avid is stumped...By the way I am running the correct version of Quicktime on the MacBook Pro I'm using...

    They're in OMF format.

Re: Transfer of Audio Files to MC 3.0

I had this once with sd2-files on the Meridian which the software version couldn't read.

I had to consolidate them to OMF (AIFF-C)

The files are in OMF format. I'm assuming this means they're AIFF-C. Am I right?

I'm not sure, but I think SD2 Media can have an *.omf extension.

But when I work with AIFF-C Media, I have an *.aif extension (in software version).

You could try to Consolidate / Transcode an audio clip to aiff-c and see if Avid can read that file.

I think you've hit it with the sd2 file issue. I checked and they seem to have been digitized in SD2 format. How did you consolidate them?

Also, based on this, is it possible to consolidate and convert audio without video?

Re: Transfer of Audio Files to MC 3.0

Yes, you can transcode and choose "Convert Audio Format" only (not "Convert Video").

That's how it works in the software version I'm not sure if it's a little different in the Meridian.

SDII audio format support stopped when the platform architectures went from Meridien to Adrenaline. So any SDII audio needs to be reformatted.

Re: Transfer of Audio Files to MC 3.0

I can't seem to find the menu or command to convert audio files to different formats on the meridian? Where do I find this? Also is it possible to convert them as I bring them in to MC 3.0 or do I have to do it first in Meridian and then bring them in?

It's been a long time since I've had my hands on Meridien, but if it has transcode capability, you can use it to convert the audio format there first, then bring it into MC 3.0 and all should be fine. An alternate workflow would be to export the files in question as .aiff audio files and then re-import them into MC 3.0.

Re: Transfer of Audio Files to MC 3.0

Can't yet find transcode but will continue to look. The audio files are all connected to video so I don't think exporting will work since it will give them new names and no longer link them to video, right?
