MC 2.8 Capture with firewire camcorder?

Hey guys, I've been capturing tapes with ABVB, Meridien and Adrenaline hardware for years, now I want to capture DV over firewire for home use, using MC-soft 2.8 running on either a G5 Power Mac or Intel MacBook Pro.  What camcorders have you guys had success with?  I'm looking to buy something around $300-400 as an inexpensive way to ingest footage.

    Thanks for the suggestions

    Brett

Re: MC 2.8 Capture with firewire camcorder?

To be honest I have, literally, been able to capture from any camera - providing it carries the signal via 1394. I own a Sharp VL-SD20 and that works perfectly, with timecode too.

    SYS# 1- MC6.5 Mac Pro 2xQuad-Core Intel 3.2Ghz 18Gb Ram OS 10.7.5 2Tb storage (mixed SATA/1394/1394b) SYS# 2- MC6.5 Macbook Pro 2.8Ghz (mid-2009) 4Gb... [view my complete system specs]

Re: MC 2.8 Capture with firewire camcorder?

Solopost, I see you're on a Win machine.  I guess I'm looking for specific user reports from people that have used camcorder X with either a G5 Power Mac and/or an Intel MacBook Pro.  On the MacBook Pro both MC and Final Cut Pro fail to even recognize my DVX100A (yes, I know, dont use your camcorder for capture, thats why Im exploring other options) and MC on the G5 sees the DVX but it wont initiate a batch capture.  Besides buying a $1200 used DSR-11 (which I hear are complete pigs anyway) I'm opting for the cheap route.  For as little as I will use this for capture I'd like to spend as little as possible.  I know, you get what you pay for.  I just want it to work, I dont need mechanism speed, per say, just have it work.  So...  Anyone have any specific camcorder models to share that work on Mac?

    Thanks again

    BK
