Re: Timeline Responsiveness Sluggish in 3.1

The comparision between two video cards should be made on the same system to be able to tell the performance differences between the two. That being said my box with a Quadro FX 1700 runs 8 layers of DNxHD 185 picture in picture video FX in real time, the 9th PiP requires a render, I want to upgrade to a four disk stripe because I'm sure that it will give me additional tracks of real time playback.

I have really lost you here. If your card is better than mine it should do more layers (if this is the card's task) to whatever computer is on.

8 layers of DX 185 is set then but on what duration?

    This is a really crucial.

It's different to have it on a 5 sec clip than 1 minute.

And when you say 8 layers you mean of course each one of the layers having the sam effect on it?

I think I can do over 10 DNX185 layers of 20 second or more with a PIP on each playing in RT with my 4850 1G.

My Pagefile is set to 3 G of ram. My media disc is RAID 0.

I will post back a pic to illustrate the power of the 4850 which again isn't official supported and is not advised to buy one.

I have bought it because I run Liquid on this system.

Re: Timeline Responsiveness Sluggish in 3.1

sverkalo, I'm glad to hear that Your card performs this well, mine did handle 8 PiPs on a 7 minutes sequence. I wonder how a Quadro FX 3700 would do. As a (very) long time Avid user I'm also quite glad that I  do not have to buy a € 200000 system from Avid anymore and I can now build my own workstation starting from € 2000; other than top of the line MC/Symphony systems I also ran Avid Xpress since version 2 on all sorts of unsupported systems, and I came to the conclusion that to clone supported systems as close as possible (same chipset and graphic card) makes the going much smoother, and it's safer in the long run as new releses of Avid may run on formerly supported platforms, but may totally refuse to work on never supported hardware: many of us have had to trash their AMD/Matrox based boxes a few years ago because of changes in the software between minor revisions of the software itself, and this is a fact. Of course You're more than welcome to experiment with hardware (as I did) and please share Your knowledge, also things may change along the way and Avid will eventually become less picky regarding hardware as many of us have been asking for quite a while now.

Now back to the thread original topic: is the sluggishness gone from Your system with the latest MC update?

As my upgrade will come at 10 of January app.

I put my 4850 to my friends installation just for a test (he has an Acronis image of his system anyway).

Running MC 3.0 (not 3.0.5 or newer) I could see 15 streams of DX185 with 2 RT effects on it in RT with no problem. I could have even more I guess.

Re: Timeline Responsiveness Sluggish in 3.1

I've just installed MC 3.1.1 and the sluggishness seems to be gone. BUT I'm still experiencing problems using the "flip on vertical sync" option for fullscreen playback. it still isn't performing that good it did before, when i was using version 3.0

    Das anyone got any ideas?

    luca.mg:
8 layers of DNxHD 185 picture in picture video FX in real time, the 9th PiP requires a render

Forgive me to resurrect this, but I've had to re-work on the 9 layers HD project above and I just realized that it was SD clips imported in an HD project and reformatted before PiP: it is really 16 effects (on 8 video tracks) playback in realtime.
