Need Help with Converting and Importing MPEG2

I have a problem and need to find a list of importable file types into Avid MC and what their quality is like.

I found an old thread here with a link to such a list but the link was dead.

My camera creates files in MPEG2 format which won't go into Avid. My camera records at 1920x1080 HD and I want to find the best file type to convert to which will also import into avid with the least possible quality loss.

    Any help?

I use Cinematize to convert DVD to Quicktime, and it does a great job.  I don't know if it'll convert an MPEG2 file, but you could download the trial version and see.

As for file types, Avid likes Quicktime files.  If they were created with an Avid codec, all the better.

    good luck,

Quicktime Pro, at $30, will do this.  It's useful for other things as well.

Re: Need Help with Converting and Importing MPEG2

If you have MC I presume that it came with sorenson. If you select the QT presets you can select the Avid codecs to convert your MPEG2 files.

I'd choose the DNxHD 185 codec if your source is 8bit or the DNxHD 185x codec if you have a 10bit source .

The QT file you are creating should fast import into MC.

MC3.0.5, QT7.4.5, Vista Business x64, Intel Quad Core Q6600 @ 3.4GHz, Asus P5K Mobo, 8GB RAM (OCZ Reaper @ 950MHz DDR II), GeForce 8800GTX (multithreading... [view my complete system specs]

What is the model of your camera? If it is the XDCAM you can use MPEGs from the camera directly in Avid. You only need to rewrap them.

All of those years at Liquid forums and now here I am really surprised for all of the people who make their best effort to help others, who really don't care too much by the way they are doing their questions.

Big applause and respect to all of those helpful people.
