    Mixed DV & HDV Project

    Hello,

I apologize, but Please, for the nth time can someone show me the proper way of doing this?

    HERE'S MY PROJECT:

-We're targeting a SD resolution for DVD/internet/video distribution.
-Sources are 70% DV (tape) and 30% HDV (tape and m2t files)
-I started a 30i-NTSC project, tried to import an m2t file.--Of course pictures are stretched.

    How would you do it?

    Thanks.

are your DV tapes in 4:3 or 16:9.

if they are in 16:9 and so is HDV = no problem. just swith to "16:9" and use "proberly sized" to import your m2t files. I'ld edit in HD and do the downscaling in the end.

if it's 4:3 you've got to decide how your final output should be:
     - 4:3 (with the HDV clips "letterboxed" or "pan & scan"ed) or
     - 16:9 (with your 4:3 footage "zoom"ed or with "sideboxes")

    Thanks.

    DV clips are 4:3.

I want to preserve as much resolution as possible so I guess I'm looking at a 4:3 ratio.

But I'm willing to go whatever is the easiest route.

    Any suggestions?

Re: Mixed DV & HDV Project

Use the Reformat effect on the HDV material.  Decide whether you want that material to be letterbox or Panned and Scaned.

Read up on the Reformat effect.  It is your friend in this case.

    Good luck.

    Thanks!

So, should I import the m2t files on it's native format?...i mean do I need to change the project format before importing? Does it matter? Just making sure I'm not loosing a lot.

In addition, when importing, I noticed that some of the m2t files gives an error but some imports fine.

    UPDATE:

I just noticed that m2t files keeps his resolution even when imported to a DV project. But QT (HD) files can be affected by the import setting.

    Can some one clarify this?

    thanks.
