Crash upon Output to QT--MC 3.5

Help! I am unable to output sequences (7-10 minutes) to QT from my MC 3.5 on a Mac Pro (2 x 2.66 Xeon, 3  GB RAM, OS 10.5.6). I get this error message consistently:

Segmentation fault in thread "MainThread" at address 0x0

I cant do audio mixdowns either.  :(

Any thoughts?   Thanks in advance for any help.

What version of QT would help....

Here is what I think the issue is.....

    http://www.avid.com/cgi/kbase-redir.aspx?p_faqid=76460

If you get this message after upgrading to Media Composer 3.0 or higher it might be caused by a conflict between the SubCap effect and third party fonts installed on the system.  Try the following:

    1. Control click on the AvidMediaComposer application.
    2. Choose Show Package Contents.
    3. Open the Contents - SharedSupport - AVX2_Plug-Ins folder.
    4. Drag Caption.avx out of the package.
    5. Launch AvidMediaComposer.

Doing so causes you to lose the function of the SubCap effect. Restoring the system to the fonts originally loaded with the OS will also solve the issue.

One font package known to cause the issue is MacFonts by macXware

What version of QT?   Where does your media reside?

Are you able to export any sequences at all?  1-2 min maybe?  what do the sequences consist of?

QT 7.6. Media on external E-SATA drives. The project is 24p PAL. Yes, can get shorter sequences out, sometimes. No rhyme or reason.

I'm suspicious of some media in there that's corrupt, or an effect that's causing problems.

As a test, open a completely non-related project and try an export.

as an aside, I upgraded some Noise Industries plug-ins a while back and had all kinds of problems until the NI folk acknowledged that their newer plug-ins were not compatible at all and must be deleted from the timeline.

If it is media, then you can look forward to the tedious searching task of exporting small snippets until you crash it, and then replace the media in that segment.  Not fun.

Bill... spot on.  I also bet there is some suspect media or an effect.   best to start from scratch and see if a clean export goes through.  report back.

If you are able to do a video mixdown, I would suggest doing so and attempting to export the mixdown.

Additionally.... deleting the .avs file from your project and then relaunching Avid can clean up issues like this as well.  Also... where are you exporting to?  The desktop or somewhere else?

That sounds like a issue with your audio media (e.g. mixed sample rates). I would try to split up your timeline in several segments, trying to export each, to find out which segment is to blame, then do the same with that certain segment untill you found the ?corrupt? media/clip.

    Hope that helps, g_f
