Avid 5.5.3 Download Issues (Incorrect MD5 Checksum)

    Hi all,

I have recently been trying to upgrade my Avid to 5.5.3, and every time I download the new .dmg, I can't open it, it says that it is "not recognized." After multiple attempts downloading on multiple computers, I started doing the MD5 checksum, and each time it comes up with the same (wrong) checksum (ef7ce8c37360f2317182d9b7824578b9). I even downloaded it in Windows and got the same thing.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could it possibly be due to the browser I'm using to download it (Chrome)?

Any insight would be much appreciated, because I have already upgraded to Lion thinking I could install the Avid upgrade, but to my surprise I cannot!

    Much thanks,

    John

I'm confused...are you having trouble with the MC download or the OS X Lion?

I have successfully upgraded to Lion, there is no issue with that. The problem is every time I download the new Avid 5.5.3 .dmg, it cannot be opened and the MD5 checksum is incorrect. I have attempted downloading it on multiple computers, both Mac and Windows, and it always comes up with the same wrong MD5 checksum.

I haven't heard of any other issues with the installer.  Can you tell me where you're downloading from or what the link is?

Re: Avid 5.5.3 Download Issues (Incorrect MD5 Checksum)

I'm downloading it from http://esd.avid.com/ProductDownload.aspx?id=758, via the Download Center for Avid Media Composer.

I'm downloading the "Avid Media Composer v5.5.3 Mac Installer."

The MD5 checksum is supposed to be 4cd3962f802a18271799ee8d3786a002, but every time I download it it comes out to be the one I listed in my first post.

    Any ideas?

So, apparently it was the browser that was causing the problems. After all of my attempts to download using Google's Chrome, I tried once with Safari. It downloaded the .dmg just fine, and I was able to open it and install Avid. Quite a strange problem, but it has been solved / worked around. Thanks for all the help.

Interesting.  Glad you figured it out, and it's a good note moving forward.

I realize this is an old post, but I'm having the same issue. Downloaded it 4 times now! Read this thread and tried in Safari and I still get the same MD5 as is in the first post in this thread. All four times.

Hoping the original poster reads this and remembers if the MD5 really did match or if you just installed it because Safari has it mount the dmg file once it's done downloading.

It seems that the Avid site has the wrong MD5 up. I really don't want to try to install it if it's a bad download.

Any ideas? Can anyone from Avid generate an MD5 of the file that is hosted and double check the MD5?

    EDIT:

So NOW I see that 5.5.3.7 is not really just a patch for Mac and I have to download the entire MC again to get that. So I guess my issue with the MD5 for 5.5.3 is moot. Fingers crossed this 5.5.3.7 MD5 matches. Updating Avid is as annoying as editing on FCP.

Re: Avid 5.5.3 Download Issues (Incorrect MD5 Checksum)

My initial problem was that when I downloaded the .dmg through Chrome, it could not be opened / verified by the Mac OS. I only did the MD5 after multiple failed attempts (to check if there was something wrong with the file). Once I downloaded it via Safari, the file opened without issue, so I didn't bother doing the MD5 checksum. I know that this doesn't really answer your question, but I can report that I went on to install Avid and use that version without issue until the next release!

    Thanks for the reply!

I'm now attempting to download 5.5.3.7 which as also the complete MC installer so that should do it for me.

Re: Avid 5.5.3 Download Issues (Incorrect MD5 Checksum)

MC 5.5.3.7 also has mismatched MD5. I think Avid has wrong ones up or something changed when they put them up for hosting. I've never had this issue with other files from other sources unless is was, in fact, a bad download.
