Quicktime reference is xdv2? white screen in Squeeze

In Quicktime player the codec used for the reference file is xdv2, and shows black in the player. What is this codec? What will read it?

My project is HDV 1440x1080 in MC 5.5.2, and I can't find a way to change the codec so the file shows up in Sorenson or AvidDVD. Right now there is audio but white screen in both SS and AvidDVD. I loaded the Avid Codecs LE and ffdshow but no difference.

Is there a way to change the QT reference codec used?

    This is on my home system i7 920, 6gb ram, QT 7.6.9, Quadro fx1700, Windows 7 SP1

    Thanks,

    Ed

Same issue here. Running MC6 with SS 8, AvidDVD and QuickTime player 7.7.1

Footage from Sony EX3 1080i/60. I have spent hours on this. Did various mix downs:

    DNxHD 145 MXF

    DVCPro HD MXF

    XD CAM EX 35Mbits MXF

    AVC Intra 1200 MXF

    Did exports in various combinations:

    QT Ref

    QT Ref DV Codec

    SS Encode for DVD

You name it and I've done it!

QT Ref file when played begins and soon freezes. Howeverr, audio continues to play flawlessly in the timeline. As I move the cursor back and forth on the QT timeline I soon get that beloved white screen.

I've installed all the Avid codecs that are available on their website and still no luck.

Hopefully someone knows what the solution is...

    Thank you all...

    Hi,

    rakesh007:
QT Ref file when played begins and soon freezes.

Since a QT reference file isn't your final destination, don't worry about whether it plays back or not.  Do a test with a short clip (10 seconds or so) and run it through your whole workflow (QT ref > Squeeze > Avid DVD) and see how the resulting file looks when it's finished.

Once a test clip goes all the way to the end with no problems, then do it with your sequence.

    Hi Carl,

I did that too. SS was not happy either but I pushed through. And the AvidDVD was not happy either...but I pushed through. End result? DVD starts off good but soon after it froze and the audio kept playing.

So WISIWIG (I think I made it up: What I Saw Is What I Got). Right now I'm struck right between MC and QT and something is not jiving.

    Try this combination.

    Mixdown video to DNxHD 145

    Mixdown audio.

Only keep the two mixdown tracks in a new timeline.

Export using QTRef (without selecting Avid DV codec).

Re: Quicktime reference is xdv2? white screen in Squeeze

Sylvain is correct.  There are known issues with exporting a QTref file from long GOP media such as HDV.

Making some progress. I should have realized that after performing a mixdown I should create a new timeline and throw the new clip there. (All this I would perform a mixdown and then immediately do an export from the existing timeline! So of course all the various experiments I tried were fruitless).

Now the video does not exactly freeze...but it is very choppy. (Footage was from Sony EX3, 1080/60). The Audio mixdown is another issue; it is distorted and very hot, but that isn't my concern just yet.

    Anythng I could be missing?

Re: Quicktime reference is xdv2? white screen in Squeeze

The video can be choppy on the playback, like in Avid DVD. But did you export a DVD from Avid DVD and checked the burned DVD to see if it plays fine?

Is the audio mixdown levels correct when you play the audio back in the timeline in Avid?

Re: Quicktime reference is xdv2? white screen in Squeeze

My issue was solved with mixing down the video tracks to DNX145, and sending a QT reference to AvidDVD. I should have known better that HDV was long GOP, but Avid did not remind me of this, it just went ahead and made a QT ref.

No progress...is it MC6 and a codec perhaps I'm lacking? The current codec installed is Avid Codec LE v 2.3.7

Although the video was choppy/jerky, I still went ahead and created a blu ray disc after doing a Squeeze. The disc started off okay but soon it froze and jumped to the beginning. And while playing it was jerky/choppy...exactly as how it was in the QT player.

(Mix downs are exactly what Eddie did. DNX145 in a new sequence.)

You are talking about doing a Squeeze. Can you try to use the QTRef export to Avid DVD directly without using Squeeze?

You must have something wrong in your process.
