First P2 experience (please be gentle).

My friend, who operates a Panasonic Hvx200, has decided to throw me some editing work. She dragged and dropped the contents of her P2 card to a USB thumb-drive and passed it to me. That's where I am now.

I'm on MC 4.0.5 and unable to link to AMA (thumb-drive) or import P2.

Is there more to copying a P2, do we need P2 Viewer or something?

I'm guessing I could connect the camera via USB and import the card that way, but we were hoping to have a more convenient workflow?

What could complicate matters more is she's Mac based while I have the good sense to work with a PC. jk

    Thanks for any help!

    Lash

I have purchased MC6 and have a new PC about ready to roll, but I thought I'd complete this on a well working system giving me some time to get v6 squared away.

For P2 You will need the following Software

    Download the P2 AMA Pligin

    Download the MXF AMA Plugin

    Download P2 Driver

Download P2 Viewer and AVC Intra Decoder for P2 Viewer

and I think you will be good to go.

Also read the Manual/FAQ/Read Me etc,  throughly.

    Hi

I don't think there are AMA plugins to install in MC 4.x

You can try to COPY all the MXF files from your USB drive to your local \Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 folder

Then get the clips from the media tool

Hi I shoot and edit P2 all the time and it's easy as pie.  if you are on 4.0 just use import p2 from your file menu.  navagate to one folder above the contents folder and select clips to bins.  then  go back and to your file menu and select import media and your all done as for newer versions you need a ama p2 plug in as mentioned earler but there is no need for the P2 viewer as it is a stand alone pgm to log and import p2 files  and the p2 driver is a driver to load p2 cards into systems and you are not doing that as you have the files on a flash drive

    Are you sure about that?

Tom's right, if you have the content of the P2 card on a drive there's no need for drivers. I still have a bunch of MC 2.8 and they work just the same, Import P2, Clips to Bin and then Media. Just make sure you copy the whole content of the card in a folder and select that folder in the import process.

I couldn't understand why the "Import P2" option was not in my file menu. I finally found AMA must be turned off in Settings and then MC needs to be restarted! Got my Import P2 option now and it works!

    Thanks all!  :^>
