Re: Problems with AVCHD footage from a Panasonic GH4/GH2

    David Clarke:
One difference between the GH4 and my other cameras is that it is limited to recording 30 minutes.  I don't know what difference this would make to the final files, if any.

Must be something different in the UK model? Mine isn't - happily records for well ove an hour.

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.

In the UK if a camera can record video it gets a different level of import duty so many SLRS are limited to 30 minutes as this does not qualify for the duty.  Very silly but it has been this way for years.

Re: Problems with AVCHD footage from a Panasonic GH4/GH2

    David Clarke:

I have a Panasonic GH4 and normally film in MOV format at either HD or 4K.  A customer with a GH2 said he had problems with AVCHD footage from his GH2, so I tried the same thing with my GH4.

You need to set he camer to film in AVCHD.  I filmed @ 1080 50i.  Record a couple of clips and then AMA link to them in Avid.  If you try and play them Avid either locks immediately or plays for a second then locks.  This happens if I AMA link to the volume or the individual files.

Try and transcode the AMA linked files and Avid also locks.

BTW locks = Avid freezes and the computer says Avid is not responding.  No other error message.

If I import the clips the old fasioned way, file - import, they import and transcode fine.

If I load the clips into other programs - I have tried EDIUS 7, Premiere and Prelude CC 2014 - they work.  It seems to be Avid related.

AVCHD footage from other cameras - I have a Sony 3D camera, plus footage from Panasonic 151, AC90 and others - all works ok in Avid.

My tests are using Avid MC8.3 on a PC using Windows 8.  My customer has been using MC8.0 on Windows 7.

    Anyone else had this problem?

You are trying to import a consumer format and Avid / or who is making the ama-plugins will never support it Smile

Re: Problems with AVCHD footage from a Panasonic GH4/GH2

I know it works in EDIUS and I presonally use that quite a lot.  However it does not help my customer who likes using Avid.

Other AVCHD works so it is not the fact that it is a consumer codec.

At least we know it ia a problem with Avid and not the computer system thanks to the helpful replies here.

Hello. I have similar problem with Panasonic HC-W850. And one interesting thing, if clips are spanned, then problem only with first file, other parts plays OK. And I really don't know how to fix this. Try on MC8, MC7 - always the same. If someone can help, it would be nice.

different camera, different problem - probably better off starting a new thread...

Also try recording in MP4 instead and see if that solves your problem.

Re: Problems with AVCHD footage from a Panasonic GH4/GH2

I have just shot an hour of video using the panasonic x1000e camera and both mpeg4 4k and mov 4k video.

Edius 7.5 accepts this fine as does Premiere Pro CS6 albeit with a bit of stuttering, but fine after a render.

Avid MC 8.4 will not let me import the media.  I AMA linked the media and it imports fine, but then comes up 'wrong format'  The media was recorded using H264 codec and 4k settings.  I have transcoded the media using dnxhr codec still 'wrong format'

    Any suggestions please...

Re: Problems with AVCHD footage from a Panasonic GH4/GH2

I have always had "wrong format" when importing MP4 files with uncompressed sound from my GH4.  This is one of the reasons I switched to using MOVs instead - Avid and Resolve don't like MP4 with uncompressed sound, Premiere and EDIUS are happy with it.

I just tested on 8.4 and am getting the same results as 8.3 etc - wrong format for MP4 files but MOV filea are OK.  Are you definately getting the error on both MOV and MP4?

Most of my MOVS were filmed some time ago and I have not tried recent ones.  Have you updated the firmware recently on the Gh4 and are these problems with recently filmed clips?  I do not expect anything to have changed but maybe...

"mjolnarn: Hi David, could you upload a small build for examinations"

Do you mean a sample of not-working MP4 file or a sample of working MOV file?  Or are you refering to my original post which was about AVCHD GH4 format not working properly in MC?

add  ..  and there is also that bug with progressive media taken as interlaced , I see this a lot , you need to switch that in the bin to tell avid that it is progressive otherwise you will get a motion adapter in 1080 25 p projects

Just tried some .mov shots into MC8.4 and they are fine, but of course are only 1920 x 1080

Still can't import any 4k into MC 8.4

Come on Avid you must and can do better

Are you linking to media? Setup projekt to 4K then try to import footage. If isn't work install AMA plugins.
