Agreed. Here's hoping the only limitations are within the app, not its performance.

Re: [LINKS] to Media Composer | First

I haven’t yet found answers to the below questions. Are they as yet unknown or have I overlooked them?

Has how media will be managed been published? It's one thing if media is stored on local drives & all the editing instructions are stored at avid.com or its assignee. It's another thing which doesn't bode well for the product if media is stored on the web as well. Maybe it’s not so much of an issue for students living in dorms at major universities with fabulous bandwidth. And, of course, they can have edu priced MC. Not so much for those working at home with (typical) ~10mb down / 1mb up. Worse yet for rural folks with poor connectivity or volume limited satellite.

Also what constitutes a project? Can a user delete (or otherwise ignore) the contents of a project and “recycle” (for lack of a better term) projects without having to purchase more projects?

MC 8.7.2. HP Z400, Xeon W3580, 24GB ECC RAM, BMD Decklink Studio 4K, Desktop Video 10.3, Quadro K4200, 362.13 OS & programs: 600GB 10k, video: 1TB... [view my complete system specs]

All excellent questions, and please keep them coming.

All media will be stored locally. Projects will be stored in a cloud environment, which doesn't bother many people because many editors are used to saving their projects to Dropbox folders anyway.

As for what constitutes a project, I would only be speculating.

Can you register for Media Composer|First now or does one have to wait?

Can I store my projects on my own Dropbox site?

Re: [LINKS] to Media Composer | First

    Hi Scott.

Unless they change the scope of it by release time, it looks like the answer is "no" to the Dropbox question. Here's from the FAQ:

    Q. Media Composer | First includes a limited number of Cloud Projects, what does this mean?
    A. Projects for Media Composer | First are stored in the cloud on Avid Servers, accessed through your Avid Master Account from anywhere. Avid provides a limited number of free projects with Media Composer | First. This cloud-based storage is a difference vs. full Media Composer software, which can store an unlimited number of projects locally on your computer’s hard disk.

    Here's the whole FAQ: (LINK)

As for registration, pretty sure you'll have to wait until it is released. Blindly guessing that'll be somewhere towards October.

OK, I am a little confused then.  In an Investor Relations link, the company claimed to have over 100,000 users pre-registered for Media Compsoer and PT First.  Here is the link: http://ir.avid.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=911868  Maybe I am reading this wrong.

Could that be 100,000 PT users alone?  Is PT|F out ahead of MC|F?

Either way, I will wait for the official announcement.

    Hi Scott. I heard back.

The numbers are correct. By "pre-register" they mean those who have clicked on a link to notify them of more information when it gets released. They do not mean those who have obtained a copy or who have pre-registered the app. Here are the links to do so:

PT First Reg: http://apps.avid.com/ProToolsFirst/  MC First Reg: http://apps.avid.com/MediaComposerFirst/
