Big trouble with MC 8.3. and 8.3.1.

Big trouble with MC 8.3. and 8.3.1. I had to edit an entire project without these features....It was NOT fun!

When I tried to import video to MC I got this message (same message regardless of resolution).

When I tried to import music, I got this message:

When I tried to save images, I got this message:

When I tried to use audiosuite, I got this message:

It was possible to finish the project, because the media worked when I linked to the files with AMA.
It was not possible to render either. Just background render...for every effect used. It took forever!!!

Windows 7 pro,  was fresh installed just for this upgrade.

Hope somone can help!! This almost makes my editor useless.....

Re: Big trouble with MC 8.3. and 8.3.1.

They are all different messages probably related to different problems.

You should have followed rule #1 - never upgrade in the middle of a project unless you can downgrade again.

For example I have a system that is dual boot XP and Windows 7Pro precisely so that if I open an old project and experience problems  I can go back and open it in an XP based Avid system.

Problems (based on the small amount of information supplied):

    1. You are trying to import a mixed resolution Quicktime file (eg a QT Ref that refers to different files generated with different codecs or framerates) - Avid does not support this. Try transcoding this clip first to a DNxHD .mov first. Alternatively - you do not have the correct version of QT installed.

    2. Could once again related to the version of QT installed or a problem with the source media. Try AMA linking and consolidating instead of import.

3 and 4 Permissions errors - you don't have the correct permissions to access the files or the files are in use by another program and can't be overwritten. Please make sure you install and use Avid Media Composer under an Administrator profile with full permissions.

    HTH..

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.

Hi John. Thanks for your quick answer.

You are right. I should have had a backup with dual booth. Too late now...

The import trouble is with all formats, stills and MP3s/Wave. Different messages but same result. All formats work with AMA linking.I checked again today. The QT version is the right one, and I am administrator on this workstation.

Re: Big trouble with MC 8.3. and 8.3.1.

Can you please check your permissions on your media drives? Make sure that you are the owner and not the old workstation administrator. Also referring to rules of upgrading have you deleted your settings and user profile and created new ones?
