    ALE import - syntax error

    Hi,

we have troubles with our MS Excel to ALE - workflow...

we figured out a workflow to add the informations from a spreadsheet created on set to an existing bin with imported clips. Today something happened that broke this workflow and we can't figure out what went wrong or what was changed...

We export the bin with needed columns to a Tab delimited file, open this with Excel, add informations to our custum columns, save as Text (Tab delimited), import with Avid Log Exchange to write the header and merge with known masterclips in MC.

    Worked fine till today...

Suddenly the Media Composer refuses to import the edited ALE with the following error message:

"A syntax error was detected while trying to parse a timecode field in the log entry."

For sure, there was nothing changed in the Start/End columns, we didn't touch any of the pre-existing informations.

We checked the ALE for special characters but nothing was found.

There are also no overlapping TCs.

It's also not possible to re-import the untouched txt - same error.

"Maintain events as logged" didn't work either.

We also created an ALE with just one clip, Start TC 10:00:00:00 - End 10:00:10:00 but get the same error.

Tried on several machines, Mac and Win, MC 7.0.4 and 7.0.3.

Probably it's something minor that is overlooked but we are running out of ideas!

Anyone ever dealt with this kind of syntax error???

Re: ALE import - syntax error

Check for any ; rather than : in the time code fields.  Or any trailing spaces.  Best bet would be to load the text file in a word processor and show invisible characters to see what might have snuck in.

Must think of something clever to go here...
